as the title shows,im a new employee at Subway and ive been working their for around a week to two weeks, i accidentally missed a shift yesterday due to not reading my timetable correctly and i thought my shift was to be today, the boss updated the timetables and my name and shifts have been removed, i havent even been notified of this cause they called me but i didn’t answer cause ive been sick with food poisoning (from their food) and was sleeping my pains off. i tried to pick up a shift but i got told they would speak to me today about it. Last time i notified them that my cat was missing and i wanted the day off to look for her on Thursday (31/8) cause i was extremely stressed out and panicking, i got told i was letting down the team and on Saturday (2/9)…
TL;DR: Title. At some point some 4×10 employees were advised to take a 75 minute break and 3×15 minute breaks throughout their 10 hour shift, a total of 120 minutes, or 4×2=8 hours of break a week, resulting in 32 hours of work. However, 5×8 employees get one 60 minute break, thus 5×1=5 hours of break a week, 35 hours of work. It should be noted that not all employees have been advised this way. Some of the more senior 4×10 employees only take 4×1 hours break a week, so they work even more: 36 hours a week. I realized this when one of the 4×10 people I train shared their recent paperwork with me, where this was outlined. When I reached out to HR about this, the HR person said that they only recently found out about this, and that they will be overhauling the break policy in a…
Quitting my Drive In Job?
From October 1st-April 30th, I work a national team staff job during ski season in Europe since 2021, we work 9-14 hours days depending on if training or race day, lives out of 6 bags on the road, make six figures, have full benefits. In the Summer, I work at a drive in seasonal restaurant since 2019 for kicks and giggles, very flexible scheduling, 32 hours per week, walk to work, I really don’t need the money, something to keep me busy. I always quit September 15th-29th to get ready for Europe. Every season, it never fails to surprise my boss when I put in my quit notice in for September 29th, 2023. Gave him a month notice to hire more people or whatever, he will not hire. Boss: If you quit, we’re going to close October 1st and people want us to go into October. We can’t have a…
And that needs to change. Please, if you can, point me in the direction of being able to unlearn this point of view. It is ruining my life.
The Battle Over Remote Work
Was fired; no explanation
Working in an office job for about 4 weeks. I was hired with the mutual understanding between the supervisor and I that I would need training because I had never used some of the software and they had their own way of doing things. However, training was practically non existent and at the whim of the supervisor. Had a few minor mistakes, but nothing that wasn't easily fixed. I could tell my supervisor was getting frustrated so I asked my coworkers who had been there a while if they would be willing to double check my work before I submitted and sent it out. We had practically nothing to do for half the day so they didn't mind keeping busy and helping out. On the 4th week I really started hitting my stride and was doing really well. Coworkers weren't finding any errors except for the “oh we forgot to…
Looks like I need another Job or 4
We’re software engineers. We spend pretty much 9 hours each day sitting in front of a computer screen. Humans aren’t supposed to be sitting on our butts all day. I would say our job isn’t healthy at all. What do you guys think?
