It really happened with my last job
I missed a slack message from my boss at 4pm on Friday, and was reprimanded this morning for “being offline during business hours.” I've regularly worked nights, weekends, early mornings, and through my vacations. I get emails from her on weekends. So tell me, does this mean I can start reprimanding her for trying to contact me outside “business hours”?
Has anyone else been in this position? I was hired on as a virtual assistant to a small company a year ago. Now I’m being made to feel like I’m not doing enough because I don’t participate in person… even though the role was advertised as remote. Anyone else been in this position? Any advice?
I was on a job and I got a call. I tell all my clients that I do have to answer the phone but only for places that I schedule work with and that I will always keep it short. the person calling me is one of my clients and they say “you are an hour late” and I say “im working right now actually and I cant talk long, what do you mean I am late? im not working at your company today?” they say that I am on the schedule. I have never heard of that before and I have an idea of what is happening but I dont want to upset them and I am at work so I dont want to talk for very long. I say “im not aware of being on your schedule, who arraigned that with me? ” slight pause then angrily “…
I wanted to post after reading this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/te0f5w/just_got_a_verbal_warning_from_my_boss_who_says/ Let me start by saying I work in IT, but am by no means a security expert. Work monitoring software has become pervasive, and it's pretty much assumed if you're in a work from home situation. If you are working from home, you will ideally be using a computer owned by the company (hopefully they are not making you use your personal computer), and it likely has monitoring software. That type of software generally runs in the background, and has admin access to your camera, microphone, and desktop. You should assume that if the computer is on, your company can see all open programs, and look at your desktop as well as use your webcam, and microphone. The computer probably won't explicitly warn you when this is happening. I would advise against doing anything on, or in the vicinity of that…

So I never hated my job, and I've always been paid well. After a strong year, in my mind, I'm given a “meets expectations” and a less than 1.5% raise in December. Told I make “too much for your position” so there's nothing to do. Do some job hunting and find another position that pays more, and I submit my resignation. Everyone seems surprised and they try to get me to stay, but still no commitment to a raise. I forgot I signed a non-compete about two years ago, and they have decided they are looking to enforce this document and have informed me I cannot work for with my new employer for three months (total non-compete is 6 months, so only partial enforcement). So the money they “couldn't” give me in a raise, is now going to pay me to stay at home? Can anyone help me make sense…
