Should I leave?
Brief background: my company fired many people three months ago. Only a couple of us survived and of course we are stressed, overworked, and got the workload of everyone who left. I was naive and did my best to help everyone, I did things that went beyond expectations and so did my other coworkers. Keep in mind I’m the youngest and the one who is paid the least. My paycheck is a joke compared to anyone else, but my boss implied that he would give me a raise and I believed it. I spend months working my best, doing at least the job of 4 people. This week my boss created a company wise meeting and congratulated my coworkers and me for everything we have done. He thanked me and gave a speech about recognition and how much it means. I was getting my hopes up until…. Yup. The meeting…
So instead I polished up my resume and applied for new jobs. time to quit when your boss of 1 year cant even spell your name right when its right in front of you….
I managed network/systems infrastructure at a small UK telecomms company. The CEO built the company from scratch and worked every day 7am to 7pm. My contract stated office hours between 8am and 16:30. So barring an emergency, I was out of the door at 16:32, no excuses, just a goodbye. I would still answer phone in after hours emergencies. When I started, I worked alone. We grew, CEO hired more people and I became a team leader. I noticed the english folks all worked extremely long hours. Of course this included spending 40+% of worktime chatting in the kitchen, reading social media, discussing football and brownnecking CEO. My CEO, at first jokingly, started calling me “Mr Factory Worker” every time somebody wanted to schedule a late afternoon meeting and I excused myself. Later, he started poking fun at my “factory worker mentality” at every possible occassion, mentioning how my other…
Sowing the Seeds of Discord
Deciding to put my official two weeks in at my current position. Overworked, not treated as a human, belittled, thrown under bus constantly so people can stay on the bosses good side. In the meantime I decided to ask a few coworkers mostly newer to the practice how much they were making. Turns out vastly different amounts not based on experience. Yeah, they weren't happy to hear that. I predict he's going to have some raise requests or ads out for hiring very soon.
Can’t get ahead, ready to end it all.
I have been trying to find a decent enough job that I could save some money for my girlfriend and I to get a place to stay, but every job is $10-12 an hour and even a hotel room is damn near $100 a night. Now, to add to my already overloaded plate, we are getting kicked out by our roommates on the threat of violence. I've got nothing saved up, and no idea what to do. It's so bad that I don't see the point of going on, if it's never going to get better. I've called every homeless shelter in my area and they're all full due to the tornado warning for my area. I'm not sure if I'm still going to be here for much longer. None of my family is close enough to help, and I can't do anything myself. Edit: Got some breathing room. Roommate…
Thank you Antiwork
I have been following this thread for a few months now and I have finally gotten the courage to ask my boss for a better salary. I have been working with my company for over two years and have only seen a $1.50 increase in my wage. I am sure I am one of the lowest paid employees in the company. I told management to increase my salary or I am walking. Tired of working for below living wage standard.
