When I was in highschool I red a book called “Feed”. From Wikipedia: “Feed is a young adult dystopian novel of the cyberpunk subgenre written by M. T. Anderson. The novel focuses on issues such as corporate power, consumerism, information technology, data mining, and environmental decay, with a sometimes sardonic, sometimes somber tone.” It basically ends with a kid trying to break the system by chaotically ordering random shit and canceling the orders, inputting weird ransoms search queries and the like. I got to thinking, what if a large number of people just happened to start ordering super cheap items on Amazon/Walmart/Wish/etc and canceling the orders shortly after, even after getting a shipping confirmation. Surely it would create some serious chaos on the servers, inventory management and shipping companies. Amazon's free returns would really eat into their bottom line. Just a thought.

Buyk, my former employer, just went bust. Belly up. I’m still getting updates from the payroll app that my check has been paid though, even though no money has been deposited into my bank account. Not only is this adding insult to injury, but this is going to be an inaccuracy in re filing taxes next year. Cool. I’m also worried that this will effect my UI payments :/
Job hired me but won’t call me in
I was hired about 2 weeks ago for a job. I’m a college student and I commute to school so I really need the money for gas, books etc. etc. Dude told me to wait for a call in and I’ve been waiting. After a few days of no call I called them and they just told me to wait for them to call. It’s been 2 almost 3 weeks and I’ve gone through my savings just getting to school and I still owe about $100 in tuition. I can’t afford this right now. I tried calling about 3 times today and there has been no answer. I’m panicking. What should I do?
The worst job I’ve ever had
I have worked in fast food, chicken plant, retail, gas stations, farms, eldercare, doctor's office-most were pretty terrible, but this takes the cake. In 2018 I found my life in shambles. I had to move, I had a small child, and was single. Yeah, I probably made some bad decisions that lead to this situation. I applied to Kubota, as the starting wage that was advertised was $14/hour which is almost a living wage for my area. I lasted less than a week. I went in thinking it would be boring, but decent and a steppingstone to getting my life together. We were hired through a temp agency. There was no option for direct hire. At the temp agency were informed that the pay was $10 an hour. We had 3 days of training in July, in Georgia. The training building was not air conditioned, and neither was the…
UK PPE Laws
I have been offered a 0-hour contract (advertised as 20 hours, which I'm uncertain of the legality of?) through an agency to work at a large local factory. The agency has requested I buy my own PPE or buy PPE through them (which is to my understanding illegal in the UK). I'm in need of a job and uncertain how to respond to this. I have contacted ACAS and HSE but is there anything else I can do? Any advice on how to handle this situation is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Gulping the Non-Profit Koolaid
I am so burnt out from work that I am seriously thinking about telling my boss that I got Covid so I can at least just be able to work from home for 2 weeks, bare minimum. I work for a grass roots, educational non-profit in a title I district that belongs to a board that is made up of brokers in the finance industry—does that say enough? I am neurodivergent and have adhd, and am in a managerial position. I made the mistake of showing how capable I am by putting in 150% when I started here because I wanted to prove myself. Now anything less than is unacceptable. I always get tasked with brunt work that other colleagues put off because they know I’m the type of person who will put in 150% to get it done right. For those wondering, I make salary ($55k), and I was…
Management vs. toilets
I have a theory that you can tell a shitty employer (lol see what I did there) from a decent one with their rules on going to the toilet. It's like natural bodily functions are the worst enemy of managers. When I started college on leaving school, one of the first things I can remember them saying is “you don't need to ask if you can go here, we're all adults”. So it's like going back to school when you leave college or university. It's like employers want you to be superhuman. I work in a call centre, which isn't as bad as others to be fair, but I'm still timed between calls, so I only have 5-6 mins to do necessary admin and then jog to the toilet, do my business and get back. What if I need extra time? It's just so degrading. Having to explain to your…

Being a landlord isn't work. This is undeniable. If we agree that a job is a task you do for money, it's not a job. If a waiter stops being a waiter, tables go unserved. If an electrician stops being an electrician, electrical systems go unrepaired. If an accountant stops being an accountant, finances go unaccounted. But if a landlord stops being a landlord, nothing happens. That's because landlords make money through ownership, not work. Now, you might ask “Without landlords, who would do all the duties necessary for a residential building to function?”. The answer is that landlords don't do those things; property managers do. The actual “work” of maintaining housing properties, from fixing toilets to collecting rent, is overseen by someone whose job is expressly to do so. If a property manager stops being a property manager, properties go unmanaged. And yes, there are landlords who do these…
