So, I work as a landscaper. My company has been in a state of collapse for like six months. I think this is the death knell. The highest paid guy at our company (that isn't an owner) makes $26 bucks an hour. Average pay at our company is about $15 an hour. I make $16.50 and I'm a floating crew lead that does irrigation installation, generally. I'm not great at interviews. So finding another job has been a nightmare. Anyway, I'm sidetracking. Snow removal usually means I make $19.50 an hour. We've had tons of snow this last week – but no snow removal. I got hired at EvilCorp 6 months ago. During the interview process, I was told that this was such a great company to work for and that work-life balance was attainable. At the time of my hire, employees catching covid was taken a lot more seriously, so I had the flexibility to work from home. When I accepted the offer, my manager told me I was only expected to come in once a week once covid was “over”. Suddenly it became 2 times a week. Now it's 3 times a week. That's complaint #1. Here's complaint #2: my boss is a psycho control freak who likes to berate all of her subordinates. That’s actually crazy. Gas is going up and rent is going up. Minimum wage? Stays the same. I do not understand how Los Angeles and other big cities expect to have minimum wage workers that work at their stores & work in their economy expect their employees to drive over an hour since they cannot afford to live in the area that they are working in. Nowhere is affordable even on $20 an hour nowadays.
