Job interview recently at a Grocery Store in the sunshine state

So, I have started to look for a new job lately. I'm retired from the service so I can pick and choose where I work. I have also been in the food industry for close to 40 years in basically every position from dishwasher up to Exe. Chef/Manager. As I look around, I want something close to home, part time, but with a livable wage, or since it's Florida, as close as I can get to that. I fill out the online app, state my salary requirements at between 15-17 per hour. Just so happens a local store has quite a few openings, to which I can do all of the positions, as I am cross trained in them all. Arrive at the scheduled time, and have to wait 1 hour. Interview begins. Seems to be progressing well, then we get to the part about pay. I'm told they will pay…

do you think this is a sign of a toxic workplace?

It's generally a bad sign when the two senior people in the department are trying to figure out a way to draw three days suspension so they can have some time off

Romania’s minimum wage is even worse than in us.

In Romania the minimum wage is 2$/hr, while in the us it is about7.5$/hr. What the hell. How are we suposed to live?

Burnout Venting

At today's end I will have had only two days off in a 5 week period. 13 on, 1 off is the rule. This isn't meant to be a brag. I value my time off and did not want all of this OT. Of course there was no one to cover this weekend, everyone else is very busy as well. I sucked it up, but I'm extremely exhausted. My department has finally posted a position for a 3rd man to help in my discipline… 5 years we've been asking for it. Hopefully things get better. I've felt trapped under the work load for a while. Even more so by feeling the weight of being a sole provider. Decent healthcare and benefits are hard to come by, but is it worth this toll on the body? I've enjoyed this subreddit, and just wanted to vent. I guess I don't have a…

I work with a few construction guys who are making too much money.

I (m30 something (honestly not sure, and not doing the math)) am a shipping coordinator for a building supply production warehouse. In a nutshell; I make sure things go. Most companies with whom I work have people working the same position as I. I call them, they call me, we email each other, it's an orchestrated effort to make sure the product gets to the job site when it needs to be there, not late and definitely not early. There is some natural pressure built in (no pun) to the position as anyone who has worked in the construction business well knows. Well… Inevitably there is going to be the guy (that guy) who wants to do it all themself. They run a business as lean as they possibly can, “you see, it's just me and my brother in law and his 12 year old… I can't be everywhere at…

I’ve met various employers who pretend to dangle carrots in front of recently hired employees, only for the employees to find out those carrots don’t really exist.

The rewards are few, the exploitation is massive. I've heard of Managers overhiring Salespeople so that they are constantly feeling underpaid, so they have to stress more about making sales on commission. In reverse scenarios, I've seen organizations under-employ their operations and marketing, to cut costs. This emotionally tortures their current employees who don't have much of a say in the situation. It also doesn't yield the desired results.

9-5 Burnout

Preface: I am interviewing for a job and I have only ever done the 9-5 Mon-Fri BS once and absolutely hated it. It burnt me out so quick. I felt like Saturday was for catching up on sleep or free time and Sunday was to prep for Monday. This new job requires 9-5 and it’s an hourly paying job. I like this job because it pays really well, it’s remote & is easy for me. I’d honestly prefer something that was only 4 days a week, 10 hours a day. Is it wrong of me to think about accepting the job knowing I won’t be happy? Or any tips to avoid burnout?

After an interview that wasn’t well guided, the interviewer sent me an e-mail telling me he thought I didn’t have the “business acumen” for the role. That’s incredibly insulting and defeating. And we wonder why people aren’t so motivated to be in the workforce.

People need to realize that started a new job is expensive.

I needed: a used reliable gas efficient car for the commute a phone upgrade (battery wasn't reliable) upgrade my laptop (because I'm poor and mine was 6 years old/worn out) Headphones for zoom interviews to reduce technical difficulties Also booked rooms in libraries for the interviews because I couldn't afford to upgrade my internet all new business casual clothes (my clothes were work clothes. shirts that come in bags, pants that are beat and torn, and work boots) accessories (bags, mice, keyboards, etc.) If I didn't have money saved up I wouldn't have been able to accept my new job, and I won't get my first check for another couple weeks. I love my new job, but holy shit you can't just “if you don't like it get a new job” if you don't have adequate money saved. I had to spend hundreds just to upgrade my router so I…

does anyone exercise or go for walks when supposed to actually be working?

seems to be a great time to spend the day with people who seem to share a similar philosophy.
