PSA: Companies use influencers to maintain public image. Here’s how to hurt those ad dollars at work.

Corporations spend mega money working w IG and TikTok influencers to sell product and maintain public image. These brands choose these influencers because they know that’s their audience. We have massive opportunity to ask these influencers publicly via comments on their ads why they are supporting companies who are massively underpaying workers. You can find public personas who are doing ad partnerships for these corporations by looking up #[brand]partner. Walmart = #walmartpartner Kroger = #krogerpartner Trust me. I used to work in marketing and if we contribute massive negative sentiment via ads it’ll scare away influencers from working w those brands and it’ll make its way up to the C-Suite. If someone has a sample script we should use, share it below. Maybe something like: This company is a known wage thief, underpaying hundreds of workers. We call on you to stop supporting wage theft and only support companies that…

A CEO bragged about ignoring a dying relative for work

Title says it all. I'm a software dev, and I get reached out to constantly by recruiters and companies because I chose early on to specialize, and my focus has become the new hotness or whatever. Most of the jobs that I get reached out to about are total bullshit, don't actually exists, or are so comically bad I don't think that these companies are genuinely trying to find people to do work. Yesterday I had a company reach out that pitched the idea of telemedicine… for dogs. Yeah. Anyway, a company reached out and it was in a very interesting space, not some bullshit idea but actually a pretty good one. Pay seemed good too. So I get on the phone with the CEO and the subject of work-life balance comes up and I tell him that I strongly believe in work life balance, that I'm not going to…

what does “antiwork” mean to you?

I don't know you. You don't know me, but I'm sure we can both agree that words can mean a lot of things to a lot of people in many different ways, even if they're the same words. For example, if you seriously ask someone what a friend is for, you'll get all sorts of answers specific to that person. So let's clear some things up, try to understand one another in this ever growing sub. What does the term “antiwork” mean to you? To me, I understand money is the root of a lot of things. “The grind”, “the game”, whatever ideology behind the hustle for more income means very little to me. It's not just simply the money, what does money entail? Everything, it's a means to an end whether it be a service, item, or the chance to live with freedom. Freedom to me is what's important,…

I work as a home manager of a group home for disabled individuals. Work has become something I literally dread if no for the individuals I care for whom I can honestly say I love like my own children. They have aever behaviors literally have had a bite taken out of my forearm and an individual eat it. That being said upper management is making us work alone. As salary I've been working that that home 24hrs straight another manager has worked 43 straight with no sleep and nobody would come to relieve him. I've begged for helped through text and email but get ignored, so we co tinie to work ALONE trying care for 8 ppl. People are getting hurt and we can't even provide adequate care. I recently…

Should I ask for a layoff (rif)or get fired?

I’m leaving the country on March 16 to take a career break. My company doesn’t like, and I don’t like them. I want to be able to collect unemployment while I travel. Should I ask for a rif (layoff) or should I try to get fired?

Not treated any differently

I have been having problems at work, my immediate supervisor came at me with a highly confrontational demeanor over a disagreement in our workplace. I had a panic attack and took lunch to go collect myself. When I returned I went to speak with the owner (the next line in the chain of command) and expressed that I was not comfortable with what happened, to include my coworker raising their voice and saying “Fuck you” to my face. I reminded them that I have depression, anxiety, C-PTSD, and most recently been screened for and pursuing and Autism diagnosis and asked that if there are problems that they be addressed in a less confrontational and aggressive way. My boss said and I quote. “We will not treat you any differently than anyone else” Which to me seems counter to the conversation seeing as I was approaching to remind them of my…

Company won’t pay out PTO after resignation

My husband resigned from his job in the beginning of January. He worked for a huge security company in California. They essentially won’t pay him out his accrued PTO. His manager and the HR person that emailed him for his final check are just saying “there isn’t a check for you here, sorry” and now ghosting him. His PTO hours are still displaying in his employee portal (of which they actually kicked him out of, but he was able to reset his password to get back in.) This is totally illegal right? Any advice on what we can do? My husband is such a nice guy and broke his back for his manager…I’m sure he could be a bit more annoying and forward about it all but it’s very clear they’re to shrug him off and DGAF. Advice????
