I told her no of course. I work at a hospital as a nurse. I'm essentially the shift lead of my area, but not a manager. We're hemmoraging staff because dealing with covid has just absolutely sucked, and you can double or triple your pay by leaving and working as a travel nurse. To try to intice people to stay we got a decent raise. It's based on tenure. I've worked for the company for 4 years in May, my raise was from $29.6 to $34.x. I started at 22.5 as a new grad. Not everyone got a raise. What my manager told me was that corporate looked at data of who was leaving the most. People who have been with the company for 10+ years weren't quitting to travel, so corporate just didn't give them a raise. What a thank you for your loyalty. At least I know about…

Hi, Long time lurker sorry for format I'm on mobile My ex boss gave me a phone call on valentines day during my covid leave letting me know that “my role was no longer needed and I was being let go”. A few days after, I get an email that I will not be compensated for the 2 weeks I worked before going on Covid leave because I had not completed an ongoing and year long project. Now in my contract it states that I am an hourly employee that isn't paid based on project completion. I'm just at a loss for words at what to do to be honest. Not only did I lose my job, but now I'm getting denied pay for 2 weeks of tedious office work. Any advice on how to handle this?
Ishmael, Story of B
Has anyone out there in Antiwork read Ishmael and/or Story of B by Daniel Quinn? If so, how do you think the ideas expressed therein relate to the purpose/ideas/mission of Antiwork?
So I got the job
I posted a few days ago about some odd interview questions I got but I did get the job. My training days are supposed to be part time but I don't think anyone told my trainer. She said maybe a dozen words to me and instead of pointing out and correcting my mistakes she just went behind me and wiped up non existent dirt. She spent a good portion of the morning talking to a coworker about some drama and talking to her husband who works in maintenance (no clue what about I don't speak tagalog). I'm exhausted and my joins ach bat at least I'm making minimum wage (14.50). The worst part is it would be so easy to streamline the work. I can definitely see why so many people quit after only a few days of changing sheets and throwing away all the drugs people keep leaving in…
my coworker came into work with symptoms
my coworker just tested positive for covid i believe around tuesday or monday. then yesterday, the day after texting positive, she comes into work and i'm surprised to see her. so i ask her how she's feeling and she tells me that she's not quite in great shape but that she's mostly healthy. mind you, we work in a salon so we have each a different customer coming in every 1-2 hours. to every customer she had, she told them that she “had” covid and that she's still experiencing leftover symptoms but that it's not contagious. meanwhile, during the whole treatment she is sneezing, coughing, clearing her throat and talking with a raspy voice. i found that so disgusting and unprofessional, but i didn't say anything because i'm new and i feel like it's the manager's job to say something or send her home. when i got home, i text…
So that just dropped because they think I am not hearing and probably I'm not important enough to know how the company runs. I made the internal management system of the company. Since I came here I actually made the company Friday chill snacks disappeared because the works are more streamlined now and they have less free time. What we want is a raise. Not pizza as a 'good boy/good girl'. Can't wait to check out off the company. Edit for clarification; I did not personally make the Friday chill snacks disappeared. My program made the company able to get more clients and thus more job. The management see this as they can push workers and they ended up losing their free time. What I wanted to do is make their job easier and cause less human errors, not to take their free time away
I work for conduent which is a 3rd party contracted with apple but from what I've seen from other comments other companies contracted with them are just as bad and apple is part of the problem. it doesn't always say in the job posting that it's for apple support so here is a list: conduent teleperformace kelly cnx (concentrix?) transcom 24/7 intouch please let me know if there is more so I can add it they are very strict about restroom times and apple does not include any aux code to use the restroom in the app you use for work we have to use the break aux. they have many ways to monitor you this article shows that teleperformace was using video monitoring apple still works with this company, I've even had my company try to pull shit like this at times they asked me to leave the camera…
Surveillance at work – Welcome to 1984
Name and shame time – A branch of SIEMENS in the UK have issued out a system called “Crew Hawk” to all the employees in our facility (~120 staff in a factory setting) for “safety purposes”. Their argument is its to tell you when you're near a crane field – Except the entire building is a crane field so everyone is already aware to keep clear when someone is lifting. The system creates a network to allow them to track the position of each employee and make sure they're in their allocated place on site, and to let them know how long people are spending in the smoking shelter. They've already announced they will also be fitting cameras onsite, and with around 60% of our staff being contractors (which is unusual for this area) they're under threat of being sacked if they kick up a fuss about it, so naturally…
