I work at a small coffee shop in a smallish town. I work full-time as a barista, making only $10/hr. I’m there 6 days a week, 6am-2pm. My supervisors are aware of my health issues, both mental & physical, and accommodate me when absolutely needed. I have only called out one other time after working there for 7 months, due to a family emergency. This morning, I woke up feeling nauseous, and had to relieve myself. Hi all , Winter is a great time for reflection, maybe more so for agricultural workers. I've recently been made a salaried position at a mid-large farm. I have a degree and five years experience within the trade. I was curious to any or all the farmers on here if they're seen as assets or expenses where they work? Are you going to keep farming or are you cutting tail and pursuing other opportunities? I am no land owner I simply work on the farm. My second inquiry is to the older generation of farmers that may be here. How are you all doing? This happened a long time ago, I just still feel angry every once in a while about my time with this company and working for my managers for multiple reasons. So for about 8 months I worked at one location of an office supply chain store. My position was a tech sales supervisor, essentially when someone comes up for a computer, printer, label maker, etc. pretty much everything electronic that the store sells I help customers and answer questions. During that time of helping we have to ask a series of questions trying to get at upselling other things in the store and also our in store warranties to convince them to buy more things so essentially the company can make a bigger profit off of each customer. There was a post recently saying how this sub is far left Anti-Capitalist and Pro Anarchist/Socialist. But why is there a need to set a standing? Sure, many of the ideas spread in this oppose many Capitalist values, and yes, almost all problems on this sub are a result of Capitalism, but why segregate this sub politically? This sub is all for one thing; Fair pay, Fair hours, Fair treatment. No matter your preferred ideology, or your standing on the political compass, you should be welcome to this subreddit. We see this everyday. It’s always the average and underachievers getting the promotions and raises. The hard workers just stay where they’re at because the bosses know they don’t have to incentivize them when they already have a strong work ethic to begin with. The average workers and the under achievers keep getting raises and promotions because they know to do precisely what their lackluster managers want them to do.
Any thoughts on Chewy as a company
So I just had a great experience with a customer rep from Chewy.com and wanted to see if anyone ever worked for them. My pet parent friends have always raves about their customer service and how friendly they are. I was curious if they treat their employees as well as their customers. When my dog died them send a hand written signed card and refunded me my recent food purchase. Yesterday they refunded me $100 of dog food because my dog didn’t like it and said just donate the rest to a local shelter. On this forum we talk a lot about companies that are awful to employees and how as customers we should avoid doing business with them. I've had my eyes on this promotion for a while now, and was making sure to progress in terms of pure technical knowledge in my field as fast as I can. My boss knew I was aiming for this new job, and was approving of it. I then learn by chance that they're looking for someone to fill the position outside the company, because “no one has the required competences inside”. Very well then. I'm already more than annoyed, when I'm told that it's gonna be my job to walk that new person through their job. The very job I'm reportedly to incompetent to get, and that pays almost 2x as well. What the hell do I do now ?
