Work, no rest, running after the money

I'm very exited to make my first post in this community. I would like to first send my salutations to all antiwork members as a lot of your thoughts are true and I share a lot of the same feelings you guys have. We live in a time where it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Wages haven't kept up with the rise in cost of living, boomers are honestly the most selfish generation to ever exist, the level of greed I feel from these people is disgusting…..they are leeches that can't stop sucking!! I'd like to use this example to explain my inner thoughts: A farmer who has a plot of land uses it to plant his crops every season and in return gets his crop yield and sells that to make his living. Now this farmer is smart and takes proper care of…

Thinking of going AWOL

My work sneakily tried to relocate me, got me out of the province working a job supposedly for only “a few weeks”. Get to said job, I’m given keys to an apartment instead of a hotel and I’m told that I’ll be taking over the testing lab full time here, I think it’s very unprofessional of them to do this to me as I have responsibilities back where I live, and the few days to a week off I used to get meant a lot because I could take care of personal things. Anyways, I’m currently sitting in this apartment. Supervisor won’t answer my texts or calls and I’m stressed out, I know how it usually works out if you refuse to relocate, you end up losing your job anyways. So, do I go AWOL and drive 8 hours back to where I live and just ghost the company?

When you give up your work rights, you normalise this terrible behaviour and make it harder for everyone else!

I live in a country that guarantees 10 days paid sick leave. I found out one coworker (a millennial) at work took time off because she had bronchitis. When she came back, she said “I feel better and poorer”. I said “Why do you feel poorer? You had paid sick leave”. She told me “I just asked for it to be unpaid. I felt bad for the company. It's not their fault I was sick”. Shocked, I reiterated to her that this is a right that every full-time worker in this country is entitled to when they're sick. I told her next time she should take it, just like I do when I'm sick. More pressingly, when the boss is sick, you can guarantee he's still getting paid. But here I am, still in shock and actually a little angry, because I see this kind of shit happening all over…

Why do I feel that I am not successful if I’m not busy all the time?

I had worked for Starbucks for 5 years prior to getting a desk job. I was so used to running around like crazy getting different things done. Now, I am nowhere near as busy. I enjoy being busy. I feel that if anyone sees that I’m not busy all the time that I’ll get into trouble or they will think I’m of no use and get rid of me. Most of the days it is slow while some days a moderately busy. Is that just cooperate culture? Does everyone just pretend they’re busy and actually just do nothing? I don’t know why I connect being busy and productive to success…

We have unlimited PTO, but have been told I shouldn’t take more days off than 35…

I thought the point of unlimited PTO was that it was unlimited… im never behind on my work, if people take days off we always work and schedule around it. Nothing has been late. I have a great team who cover for each other when needed. I get a message from my manager reminding me that Ive already taken 30 days off this year, and im coming up close to the company average. I didnt think anything of it at first but im feeling like its was a passive aggressive way of letting me know Im getting close to a limit when there shouldn’t technically even be a limit. I was taking days off this year under the impression our PTO was actually unlimited, now I feel like ive used up too many days and im probably not going to be able to take time off for the rest of…
