I’m working for a large technology company that has offices all across the world, but they’re extremely unorganized. My position is a bit odd in that it’s a start up / new integration in the US, and there are only 5 of us in the group. I love that it’s a unique job, but I constantly find myself with absolutely nothing to do. And on top of it, my boss is a micromanager who re-does all of my work anyway, and immediately shoots down any of my thoughts / ideas because she wants total control of the trajectory. I mean, she literally told me and my co-workers in a meeting that “you’re not allowed to create anything without it being approved by me first”. So, yeah. I don’t LOVE the job and I’m in a limbo between trying to “ride it out” & whatever that means, and finding a new…
Miserable Job 30F
To give y’all some background. I worked for this lady let’s call her Karen for the sake of confidentiality. I worked for Karen for years. I bent over backwards for this subcontractor and after I quit she ruined my reputation out of fear I would “steal her business and her clients”. I worked for her walking dogs, administering medication for dogs, and playing with dogs all day essentially, I also pet sat for cats and other exotic creatures. I LOVE animals. I love to take pictures of animals and nature as well, which I would always share with my clients. All of my previous clients through her loved me. I never had a complaint! My clients would ask for me by name when they wanted to book and at one point I was so overbooked that I literally didn’t have much of a life. I was there for Karen when…
Just read a report that stated that working from home can cause physical harm to your body. It states that it can cause blood clots and heart disease. But what about our mental and emotional well-being? There have been jobs that I have quit before where the job is very physically demanding but mentally and emotionally i am completely drained. Bad management can ruin a great job and not having to deal with those managers on the day-to-day basis, can be absolutely rewarding and refreshing. Plus, if you're working a job where you are sitting at a computer or even perhaps assembling things at your house for shipment out, you know how to be physical. You know how to get up and walk around every 45 minutes. Stand up and walk and stretch and go to the bathroom and get a snack and get a drink. You are not tethered…
Emoloyers and CCJ checks
Should this even be a thing? I was just looking through warehouse positions, one is for a tobacco, nothing to do with financial work. Agency work at that, not even perm position. This position doesn't recruit those with a CCJ. I don't have any CCJ but this is getting ridiculous with job requirements.
Need advice on talk of pay lawsuit
Short story: I have talked about pay with my coworkers, comparing compensation based off degrees held. An admin overheard (she says a coworker told her of this because she felt uncomfortable, w/e) and I was talked to. I was told to stop and that this was the last straw for me. If something else happens, I’d be fired. I hate this job/admin. I KNOW I’m legally protected in CT to be able to talk about wages with coworkers (3rd para https://www.jdsupra.com/legalnews/connecticut-law-prohibiting-wage-71714/#:~:text=Under%20the%20new%20law%2C%20employees,no%20obligation%20to%20do%20so.) I want to talk about wages again during my lunch break, in the break room, get fired (don’t care cuz I make $18/hr) and sue. If I get money, great. If I break even, also great. Is this possible? Is it that simple? Please ask for needed details. I’d like the comments to be clear about facts vs opinion. Thanks
Work is a nightmare
So I have been with my department for 2+ years. Not permanent but contract term. I have had 3 different roles in this time. Only 1 gave me any training. (In fact this area is KNOWN for its shit training. Which i didn't know until I relocated for the job). The first one said here's your chair good luck. The 2nd (good one) was short lived as it was filling in. The third one is a nightmare. First off yes I have made some mistakes, I own that. But my boss constantly reminds me of them. And the direction I get is non existent. When I do what is asked I am asked why I did it that way, its wrong, how do you not know this yet? Having never been told, or shown. And at the same time my boss has me so nervous I am scared to ask for…
Union Contract Screws Me Over
Our union just voted in a new contract and it looks like I got the worst pay increase (percentage) out of all the “steps”. They advertised the “5.8%” average, but I'm only getting 3.2%. There are no increases in the current contract that will get me to the 5.8% (or anywhere near it). Apparently enough people are making more than this 5.8% to vote it in, but it really sucks for those of us on the leftover steps. Are there any ways to complain about this situation, or am I just screwed and have to take it?
I’m done. Need some guidance please
I will try to keep this short. I’m looking for any resources on how to start a quiet in office insurgency. The situation: Large global multinational run from Europe. It’s all project managers, engineers, engineering managers covered over by a thin layer of directorship. And this last are the bastards. Without boring you with 10,000 details, the Europeans are demanding, and our directorship is responding with countless changes to work, facilities, policies that on net are quickly making everyone’s life hell. In the past, I’ve been pretty go along to get along. But the current crop of bullshit is just senseless. It’s not even money making except for that thin layer of directors. Now, I don’t want to do things that will get large swatches of people fired or have all their work offshored. That would hurt those I want to help. What I want is our clients mad as…
