Her words: “Wake up and smell the coffee,” she told the studios. “We demand respect! You cannot exist without us!” This goes for all workers. Famous Hollywood actors are in a better position that 99% of people, but many are low-earning workers that are risking losing their houses and income for the foreseeable future, and they're striking too. There's power in numbers. I read a comment in another threat about this being a golden chance for a general strike. It is. If Amazon, Walmart, UPS, nurses, postal service workers, etc, do the same, I bet things may change for the better. Or at least I hope so. https://preview.redd.it/71oyf9h5vvbb1.jpg?width=1130&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1e5e98b9325b27b863f2d010a7cb5c910675a3d6

What should I do about my job?
In the recent weeks we’ve had tons of anger about this awful supervisor we had and we actually decided to message the CEO informing her through email. All my coworkers besides the supervisor were included and no response was given today. I truly wonder what will be happening tomorrow/what I should do with my job. The supervisor has been here for a while so I’m unsure what could happen. With the frustration we have to go through on a daily basis, $20 hr truly is so little to deal with this. What would you do?
I've been working at a nursing home for 3 years now, doing part-time since I was in high school. I left during my senior year but came back once I began college. I was able to get my younger sister (a minor) to work alongside me and we both work weekends, 8 hour shifts. My younger sister doesn't drive, so I'm her number one transportation, and our hours (6-2) matched up for the most part. That was until I was put on a 9-6 shift, every other weekend. This caused a huge problem within my household since my family all work nightshifts except for me and my sister. I could drop her off in the morning, but who would pick her up? We were able to maintain this problem albeit at the cost of my family's sleep. My workplace had always been very stressful but I was able to tolerate…
Quick Employee Handbook question
My job, like all other jobs, has an employee handbook on everything what the worker needs to do, yada yada. But whats the kicker on why I'm asking here is, What's the legality if your old employee handbook is dated ahead of your new handbook (ex. old Jan 20th 2020 and new one dated Jan 9th 2020) They did have some kind of no verbal pressure to have new tax documents made and sign some cover page to have us sign that we agree to it all. Idk whats going on honestly, did they (management) just fucked us over?
Serving notice on Monday
Same old story. I asked my company for our salary bands, which they made a big song and dance about being transparent. Found out I was being paid less than colleagues in the same role and kicked off. They offered me £5,000 more per year. I started looking around and just accepted a job that pays a further £7,000 a year. (My salary was £43,000, got it bumped to £48,000 and now it will be £55,000). When are employers going to accept that we WORK FOR MONEY? I am not saying my salary was bad, but I work in a niche field within the finance industry and virtually no one wants my job. I can just imagine the screams when it gets around that I am leaving.
Letter of resignation
Hey all! I'm a 39/F and I work in IT. I had a good job for a large media conglomerate for the last four months, however, the place just kept getting more and more toxic. I had a septoplasty about a week and a half ago, and I've been home recovering, and yesterday I got the Sunday Scaries. Yesterday was a Wednesday. I decided to just erase my work computer, go to my office, drop it off and leave, and they're lucky I even did that because if I hadn't left my sweater behind, I would have just ghosted. I said basically everything below to HR, and he told me that my previous complaints actually opened an investigation, but he totally understood why I wanted to leave (I'd complained before about things one at a time, but not all at once). He asked me to send him an email with…
I don't post here or browse often be.cause honestly I like keeping busy. My opinion, you can have your own. But why the hell do I have to go through so many hoops to submit resumes? I have a pdf of the information so why can't I just link to that? It's bullshit. They know we need to submit a ton of applications all over the place to get a decent job but they basically 3e you work before you even get the damn job. A.nd then they don't even contact you at all or give you an interview most of the time. All the bullshit surrounding these corporations have pushed me from libertarian to libcenter. We need more workers rights in America. It's insane and things aren't going to end well if they keep treating people like shit while not even giving them enough to live a comfortable life.…
I went to a bbq at my apartment today to interact with the community and get some sun after work. The people next to me talked about their work the entire time. I left bc I just couldn’t anymore.
Stop saying “Boss” and “Discipline”
This is something that bothers me when I hear people refer to their employer or manager as “their boss” or I made a mistake at work and will be “disciplined”. I think it feeds into the mindset everyone hates that we complain about here. It gives them too much of a power trip. I mean we aren't on a chain gang here. I guess they are just words but I never use them. I just say manager or whatever they are, can't think of a good replacement for discipline but screw that too, we're not in grade school.
Illegal work schedule
This is an old story of mine. I worked at Macy's in high school. I got home from school and my mom tells me my boss called and yelled at her because I wasn't at work that morning. Thing is leaving work a few days prior I had looked up my next weeks schedule. I guess over the next two we got a new boss who redid the schedule. He scheduled me to work Monday morning when I was in school. I called him back. I was so glad to be dealing with the garbage as soon as I walked in from school. Guy was rude. Out the gate he just yells at me before I can say anything. When I could finally talk I said “I'm 16, I have school in the morning. I can't skip school to be at work”. He said he didn't know my age and…
