I am scaling up my business this year, beginning with an intern who is coming on while she finishes the last three months of her doctoral program. Compensation is not allowed during this time and there are strict rules around monetary gifts, but I do plan to offer top tier salary and full benefits as soon as she graduates. I'm building our company culture and I want the setting to reflect this as soon as she starts interning. I plan to have plenty of snacks and drinks on hand and will encourage her to spruce up her workspace on the company dime, but wondering what other gestures/perks I could put in place. I don't have the budget to go full-Google with pinball, shaved ice machine, etc., but what else is on the cutting edge of modern workplaces these days? Thanks for any help!

Living Wage & Quality Of LIfe Parameters
Living Wage & Quality Of LIfe Parameters Living Wage: That changes with Inflation to always indicate an actual Living Wage defined by a predetermined quality of life parameters. When any parameter goes up in price, there is an instant equal response to the Minimum Wage. Minimal Housing Standards: Every full time worker should be able to afford to live without roommates. Every full time worker should be able to afford buying at least a 2 bedroom home a half an hour drive away from work. Healthy Diet: A full time worker should be able to afford organic local food. Plus going out to local restaurants a couple times a week. Transportation: Full time workers should be able to afford a low priced new car. When Transportation takes too long, it’s like a tax on the poor! Vacation/Time Off/Work Life Balance: How many days a year should someone work? How much…
Know Your Enemy People Vs Oppressors Is A Different Kind Of Problem: I normally work on Ideal Solutions and stay away from talking about the problems as much. I feel so many of these problems these days are so out in the open, the only way not to know is to not pay attention or at least fully embracing their Manufactured Consent unable to break free of their cognitive dissonance. The problem is that there is not just one life altering devastation but multiple all at once. Some on accident, some on purpose all with seemingly unlimited resources. (Please note, the ones on accident are just because those adversely affected are just so insignificant your death or oppressed life is just not something they care about.) We Acclimate To Our Environment: We get caught up in adapting but all we have time to do is survive minus the thrive. We…
Does anyone else find this suspicious?
I live in VA where the minimum wage is $12/hr. I’ve been looking for a job for quite a while and came across the following job. A number of flags were raised for me while I read her “employment summary”. Does anyone mind reading this over and letting me know what impression you’re left with? This is the message sent to me me via text: This is our new-hire job summary, please read carefully: We're located at xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. I start everyone out on a probationary training period to assess what you know, how quickly you learn, to see how reliable you are, & if you're going to stay with us for longer than a few hours/days/weeks. Starting training pay, is $90 per day with an automatic pay raise after 90 days. I realize you have experience and operating the skid steer/forklift is a higher paid position so I'll get with…
How to get out of working the 9-5 ???
Please I need help. I fucking hate working for people. I hate being around rude ass people all the time. It doesn’t matter what job I go to. It’s the same everywhere. I’m pretty fucked. I have no college degree, I’m almost 35. I wasted my life and now it’s caught up to me. I have a good job. It pays well but I hate it. I find no joy in it at all. Is there a way out for someone with little skills ? I used to be a florist and was pretty good. I don’t do that anymore though. I don’t know a way out of this misery.

We still have a long way to go
Global Living Wage
Global Living Wage A Living Wage alone is not enough. If we just have a Living Wage here in America we still must deal with inflation, which usually nullifies the livability of the living wage before it’s implemented. Perfect example is the $15 minimum wage. Even as we fight for $15 minimum wage, that’s not a living wage in some U.S. Cities. Our Economic System relies on the exploitation of Labor, Resources, Land, Air & Water from other Countries. Inflation keeps US fighting for a living wage that will always be just out of reach. When we have it, in no time the living wage is once again something we must fight for. We must create a system of equality. A system that says no one should have less than this Minimum Quality Of Life! Regardless of Geography, Gender, Race, Sexual Orientation, Religion or Political Beliefs. If the price of…
Just here to rant. Going to be vague with the specific in hopes I can use this place as a reference one day. I graduated college in May 2022. Luckily, I immediately found a job in the field I went to school for and was hired within weeks after graduating. From day 1, this job was a shitshow. Another employee with a very important position (that required much more experience than I had coming in) decided to put their 2 weeks in on the day I started the job. My boss asked me if I would be willing to spend the next 2 weeks with this guy as he trained me to do his job. Being optimistic, wanting to impress, and riding the highs of entering the real world for the first time, I complied. The position was vastly different than the one I applied for. Mine was your typical…
Working too hard is bad
My wife's job is declining to move her to the next level or give her a raise because she “did too much work instead of transferring customers” in her test call, and it sunk her overall scores by .03 There's really no winning in this system. We're feeling devastated.
