Growing up, in school & at home, I often heard, “Get a job you love & you won't have to work a day in your life.” It really seemed like nonsense to me at that time because both my parents had blue collar jobs. I'm sure my mom didn't really LOVE cleaning offices at night & my dad didn't LOVE his marshmallow factory job, but a JOB is a JOB. It puts food on the table & pays the bills. Right? However, as I get older, I'm starting to think that maybe, just maybe, there may be something to this old adage. Does anyone here LOVE their job so much that it doesn't feel like working when they're doing their job? Does it REALLY make that much of a difference in the grand scheme of things? Is your life better because you love what you do? Or is it all…
A computer? Never heard of her. Tell me why instead of using excel spreadsheets my company makes me keep hundreds of physical sheets with one name on each of them to keep track of who has what. I have so many papers. They all have literally one word on them. They make everything so unorganized. That’s it.
No heat or air
So earlier last year I invested in a coffee company. A small portion so I do not manage it in any way I am just an operating partner/member. However my first year agreement I had to work sweat equity with the amount of $$$ to get my portion. I learned how to roast coffee beans so we could produce the product for whole sale. In that time, the president and operations manager moved us into a warehouse to roast the beans. This roaster is also up to 440 degrees. This was close to winter so we (myself and one of the coffee roasters) were worried about the lack of heat and air. We asked about heat since it was about to be winter. There never was one put in and we never even got a heater. One or two times I left upon arriving because I couldn’t feel my hands.…
Submarine stepson is back!
I used to have a decent paying job now I'm going to 10 a hour part time but I'm getting 40 hours right now I don't know how to drive so moving to new opportunities isn't really a valid option I have 2 bags and kinda been debating on taking a greyhound wherever there's something viable. I genuinely don't see any future or possibility of progressing positively in my life I'm going to have to leave in about a month and apartments in my area range from 800-1000 a month requiring 3x rent. I'll be going to a monthly motel that's 600 but it genuinely feels like they have drained the working class enough that there's no point in participation. why have we allowed it to get to this point?
Stop the gaslighting please
Why is this a feel good story?? How?? You think she is going to sit on her death bed one day and think about how glad she is that she worked ALL of her life instead of enjoying it? These stories make me sick. This isn't a nice story.
This week, University of California Police arrested 3 workers on felony charges and confiscated their possessions for allegedly writing messages like 'Living Wage Now' in washable chalk calling on UC to stop underpaying workers. This is an attack on our fundamental democratic rights and the academic worker labor movement at large. Last December, the University of California (UC) signed historic union contracts with over 48,000 UAW Academic Workers across the state. Since then, UC has not only refused to implement the contracts they signed, but has retaliated against workers’ efforts to enforce our rights. Over the past six months, UC has failed to implement wage increases, anti-bullying protections, and appointment length provisions. They have dragged out hundreds of grievances, attempted to censor demonstrations, and even failed graduate student workers for their lawful participation in the strike. They are bending university policies wherever possible in order to discipline academic workers. These…
My 16 year old daughter is working at a stable as a camp assistant/counselor. The owner screamed at her yesterday because she couldn’t finish a task… a task that couldn’t be completed as there wasn’t enough equipment to begin with (this was the final straw btw). The owner’s expectations are consistently unclear, and she insists my kid will be unemployable if she doesn’t learn to “suck it up”. I’m of the opinion that we don’t accept abuse and we leave (there was no contract, she’s being paid substantially less than minimum wage, and she no longer rides with this stable). It goes without saying that the owner is a Boomer.
Illinois interview delayed training pay
Interview this morning at a nearby hotel. I was told by the interviewer that the job requires some training days that would not be paid out until I complete 30 days of employment. As explained as not to be a drain on establishment resources for those who train and quit. My interviewer said they trained for 5 days. I haven't signed anything and they'd potentially like me to start as soon as tomorrow. This seems less than legal but I'm not sure how to approach addressing the issue with them.
