When I was fresh out of high school, I worked as a transporter for the radiology department of a local hospital. Each modality (CT Scan, MRI, Ultrasound) had its own manager, and a director who oversaw all the managers. Anyway, we got a new CT supervisor, and from the get go, he came in with a “I’m the new sheriff in town” attitude and rubbed just about everyone in the department the wrong way. In addition, he was extremely ambitious and made no secret about having his sights set on the director position. His method for making a name for himself was by constantly undermining the other managers and meddling with all of the workers in each modality, especially the transporters. He was constantly leaving his own department to make rounds to check on what we were doing and report any of us who had down time and weren’t using…

Demoted for no reason
So some background. I have worked at the deli of a local grocery store for about a year now. This particular deli is extremely busy during pretty much all hours of the day. I started working as a closer, working 10a-7p five days a week. About 2 months ago we got a new manager in our deli. Also around the same time our one cook quit with no notice. So seeing the opportunity I decided to ask if I could take on the cook role, working 6a-3p. The new manager agreed and I started being the cook regularly (5 days a week). I loved cooking and everyone said i did a great job. Then all of a sudden last week the manager came to me and told me a coworker had complained about me being “bossy”. For context anyone who knows me knows that I am not bossy at all.…
I really need some motivation/hope here. First of all let me say that I'm good at my job, I enjoy my work, actually like my employer, and while I have only been here for about 18 months and haven't got a raise yet, that is about my only real gripe. (I have had enough experience that I know it wouldn't be prudent to expect LOYALTY from them, but overall, they're not bad as far as employers go.) This isn't about my actual job but about my complete lack of motivation to kick ass and try to get ahead. Let me explain… For various reasons, I'm almost 50 years old but have almost no savings. This isn't because I spent the last 30 years partying, it mostly has to do with poor choices in partners and the last one having chronic illnesses that changed a lot of plans and drained what…
Employer cracking down on phone use
I work in kitchens. It sucks. Rn it's fine dining but I have dealt with this everywhere. When there is literally no work and no prep for me to do, what do I do other than stare at my phone? We deep clean every single night at close. My station is super dead so doing extra prep screws me over in the long run. I'm struggling lol. I'm not looking for ways to work harder, I'm looking for ways to look busier for my employer. Rn i mke poverty wages and my boss waltzes in to say hi in a suit every night after dinner rush. .
I got passed up on a raise after 1 year and part of it was because of my productivity; basically if I finished my tasks early they wanted me to work more. “You're paid for 8 hours we expect, 8 hours of work.” One; there's no incentive to work more if I'm paid hourly. Two; my coworker who works in accounting department knows we are making huge profits this quarter so they have the money to give me a raise. Three; I'll burn out if I worked every hour for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.
This seems like a pretty basic human rights kind of thing. I don't see why they cant put a cap on how many hrs we can be FORCED to work. As of now, there is no limit and you can lose your job for refusing overtime. This is literal slavery.
https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/12/business/jamie-dimon-bidenomics/index.html Saw this this morning. Oh surprise surprise, the rich guy doesn’t like changing how rich guys get richer? Wooooow. The guy who has arbitrarily raised his own salary over the years. Big surprise. And doesn’t like paying the overhead on his offices that are empty because of wfh… Is it just me or can Jamie Dimon f*ck right off?
