My partner and I have recently qualified as architects in the UK, it's taken us nearly 10 years (6 years university (1 year whilst working), nearly 5 years working in practice). We know architects in this country are massively underpaid in general, but our recent salary increase has been a slap in the face. We both work in the same company but in different teams, he will be getting £28,500 and I will be getting £29,000, due to increase to £29,500 and £30,500 in January if we meet our 'goals'. He gets a lower salary because he's not confident in driving our big car to sites (not part of our contract to drive). A new architect 2 years ago got £30k plus her tuition paid for, and she still ultimately left for a 33% pay increase. It honestly feels like they've treated us like one person as they've given us…

I (late 20s F) fortunately and unfortunately got severe PTSD from a job that I was retired from with a monthly (lifetime) income. At the end of the job I couldn’t work due to the effect on my mental health. After that job, I spent 5 months unemployed. I got a job last month in a field that I got my degree in. But I have been MISERABLE. And I think my lack of enthusiasm is stemmed from the fact that I don’t technically need the job. There’s no fire under my ass to “work hard” or keep it so I can maintain a lifestyle. That’s where the conflict comes in. I know it’s mostly due to societal expectations. But why am I making myself miserable, spending 9 hours a day sitting at a computer making double my original income when I don’t have to? So do I wait 6…
Hi I am wondering if i should accept a “golden handshake” from my company. – i am ~50 years – offer is not “targeted” (Not a performance warning or anything like that. – mayor company – not a bad outlook in the next decade – job is somewhat secure if i stay – very good benefits for current company – very smart folks in my team / great connections in the current company – Boss + Boss-Boss is NOT pissed at me – Decision to fire comes from like 5 levels above me – Current offer is ~ 2 yearly wages – Odds of finding a new job “Good” but not this job with 100% Home office and many other perks i like – Deadline to accept: 2 weeks – “Just” got the job and i am very happy in it.
This is less about my job and more about the system and America in general. To be honest, my job is fairly easy and low stress. Maybe 5 years ago it would have been a run of the mill office job, but now it’s a work from home. Traditional 40 hours, 8-5. That whole thing. I’ve been a hard worker for more than half my life. Promoted at least once in almost every job I’ve had. My salary barely keeps my family in a shitty apartment and fed. Even with that, the state thinks I make too much for EBT. But I’m always one bad month away from complete financial disaster. Sadly, that’s not even an uncommon story any more. I was ok with it to a point. At least I had made my peace with it. And if I lived alone, I could probably cope. My kids are the…
Got fired from my job and im so pissed
I work as a machine operator on nightshift, four ten hour shifts a week, and me and the rest of third shift, granted there are only 4 of us, just got fired because they are dissolving third shift. No switching shifts, no switching departments even. They are just straight up firing us, with the exception of one guy whose been here for around 40 years. Im so pissed, my last day is on August 3rd and i just, ugh. Im probably going to try to get unemployment so i can do a nursing aid program since i was already thinking about doing it anyway. Fuck working, fuck capitalism, and to the company i work at, fuck you.
Wage increases!!
Super stoked for my 65 cent raise next month!!
I recently clicked a url on LinkedIn for a job that looked about my level. I left my job 6 months ago and need something and the salary was advertises and was in a similar range to my previous role and was for a company I’d really enjoy working for. On clicking the URL the recruiter got a ping to say I’d clicked but I didn’t apply because of the crazy requirements. the job ad required: Two specialised advanced degrees (int. development and project management) (I have a management masters only) Fluency in English; good Spanish and Portugese; and French would be an asset. (I speak English and ok French) 15 years Management experience 10 of which in a super niche and specific area. (I have 6 years management experience and none even close to the niche field) Experience managing complex local teams in isolated native African communities. (I have…
What the hell is this?!!
Most of the times in this system, when you work very hard, they expect you to work more instead of encouraging. What the hell is this system?
Title pretty much says it. Post history has a full history recap but yeah second person in a year from an “unskilled” position as they call it getting a supervisory role. Meanwhile I gave up having 3 days off and a number 3 spot to go into the 80s, went and got every cert required for the position, they trained me, and I still can't get an interview. The RSD is bad today
I currently work at a small marketing agency of less than 10 people. I took on this job offer because I previously worked in a large corporation and was tired of putting in so much effort and being the top performer without getting recognised. It was all going well at the start, with only a few hours of overtime during weekends every week, which I could tolerate. Now it’s got to the point where I’m working extra hours daily, being contacted to work on Public Holidays and even when I’m on Vacation Leave. I get that working in social media means that overtime is expected, but not to this extent. When I confronted the company about this matter, they stated that they thought it was clear during the interview, when in reality overtime was not mentioned and the contract only states that overtime is required ‘from time to time’. My…
