Why do we call our superiors boss and how did this word become part of our everyday vocabulary. The word boss originated from a Dutch word “baas” that means “master” according to Jonathon Haeber. Its use was a uniquely American way of avoiding the word “master,” which had quickly become associated with slavery by the mid-19th century. Have you ever heard the phrase “my boss is a slave driver” note the words boss and slave? In those days many workers were fond of using 'boss' primarily because they despised calling their superior 'master.' But all their efforts were in vain because the connotation of the word remains the same despite all effort to normalize its existence. It drives me up a wall when people use the word boss interchangeably with leadership; the two are entirely different as illustrated by Lolly Daskal: A boss has no interest in people development ;…

need advice, am i being silently fired?
hi all, sorry if this isn’t the right place to be posting this but i’m desperate for advice right now. i’ve been working at the same company for the past 5 years, and i get paid every two weeks. the early direct deposit is always in my bank account by 7pm wednesday the weeks i get paid, but today: no dice. this prompted me to check the app that we use to log in our hours and access out employee information and i saw that on my last payroll statement my employer neglected to take out money for my benefits (dental, health, etc.). is this an indication that they plan on firing me?
HR Invited me to a confidential Meeting?
HR just asked me to join tomorrow morning a call with them. And that this call is confidential. That no even my manager must know. I asked the HR guy and he mentioned that the topic is confidencial and that it is about an HR case. That the Point is to ask me some information. I have no idea what this is about. I am fucking anxious and have no idea what is going on. Is this even legal? To ask me to join a weird ass call with a top secret context? That not even my manager must know? Has anybody experienced something similar?
Always remember

I was working full-time for a nonprofit agency, but because of my condition we had to reduce my hours. I still completed my assignments and met my deadlines, but my schedule needed to be flexible. The quality of my work was even recognized by the national organization, which invited me to contribute to the national website. In the meantime, our executive Director created a new position and hired a new person. I was asked to train this new person regarding my projects and responsibilities. Then I was told that there was no room in the budget to sustain my position for the next calendar year. They basically replaced me by creating a different title. They had no reason or justification to get rid of me other than an unwillingness to make accommodations for my handicap. The only reason why I haven’t filed a complaint or taken any action is because…
As per title, all of the above is being done at my workplace, also I had to sign a document that where it state that I'm voluntary working 45 hours. What could I do in this situation? Suck it up?, Union? Fairwork? I'd like to fix this thing without escalation and blowing everything up so I'm not sure what should be my next steps. Thanks for reading this.
WTF how do you ignore that?
Literally nearly had a Tornado touch down across the street and the second I informed my boss he came inside like it was no big deal, heard what several of us saw (had the siren and the phone alert go off) and told us to ignore it since it started moving away from our building. What The Fuck kind of response is that when we have shit that if it went flying would KILL PEOPLE!!
I have been a live-in caregiver to an elderly parent for about 5 years and will probably continue for a few more. I do not pay rent (although I could afford it), and have not had a lease in my name for over 10 years. I have good credit, but have always moved in with roommates who already had the lease. When I look at ads for rentals, a lot of scumbag landlords make a point of stating they want proof of rental history from a non-family member. I am wondering how I can create a rental history for when I need to leave. I dread being punished for caring for another person. Things seem so awful right now I can't imagine leaving, but I have to prepare for the future. I don't know where else to ask for ideas about this, I figured everyone here would be empathetic, but…
