I’m currently employed as a business analyst. If I’m being generous, it takes me 10-15 hours per week of actually working to complete my job functions. The rest of the time, I’m just “on call.” I could spend that time generating work for myself, but I have zero incentive to do so, as anything I’ve brought to leadership in the past has been dismissed as not being a priority. I haven’t met many people (especially in white collar positions like my own) who actually NEED to work 40 hours per week to accomplish their work tasks, which leads me to wonder why there’s still such a corporate obsession with the 40 hour work week. If I can do the work that needs to be done in less time, why am I being penalized for being efficient? Wouldn’t it help everyone to have that time back to contribute to their households…

We are constantly bombarded by lies and propaganda designed to mask the inadequacies of private property owners. Our media and popular culture promote the idea that capitalists are gods (e.g. “job creators”) who deserve all their power and privileges. But all the propaganda in the world falls short of fully convincing the public that rich jerks deserve to force us to work ourselves to death for scraps. Remember: The rich are not better or smarter than the average worker. They do not deserve their money and power. They are terrified that you will recognize this truth. This applies to Mark Cuban, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, the Walton family, literally all of them. If our current world economy is a bus, it is about to be driven over a cliff by idiots who believe (or pretend to believe) incredibly stupid lies, like the idea that we can have infinite economic growth…
I was taking some extended time off for personal reasons. The plan was to let my PTO hours accrue back to positive, got dismissed beforeI could do so and now they’re asking for $600. I cannot and will not pay.
Getting used to the private sector
I came from public schools where I fully abided by the school contract, including my hours. I got a new job in the private sector and was given specific hours in writing. Turns out, I have meetings scheduled outside all of my work hours. These were hours I was planning to use for doctor's appointments so I didnt have to use PTO. So I've implemented leaving early on days that I have early morning meetings. I really hate that this is just how it is and I have to suck it up and deal with it and salaried employees are exempt. I might just be being dramatic after being burnt out from a toxic workplace, but I think it's bs that salaried means you have no official work hours.
1 kid does the work of 3 people
My boss keeps ranting to me lately about a kid who worked a couple of years ago for him. He complains that the three people he hired cannot even complete the amount of work that this one kid he talks so highly of could do in one day. After the third time he ranted to me about this I had to ask the big question. “Did he make 3x as much as those three people?”. No, they couldn’t even find a replacement for the wage this kid worked for and had to raise the jobs wage from 18$ an hour to 22$ an hour. The job is still a revolving door with people quitting within days and months because it’s too hard of work. This company now pays 66$ an hour for a job to be done poorly, when it was being done perfectly for 18$ an hour. So remember…
Out of touch with reality email
Advance apology for any format issues as I'm posting via phone. So my company has a self help app to help employees better manage stress. Today the app sent me an email saying “Try this guided meditation to unwind from any financial stress you might be feeling right now, and to open yourself up to allowing more money, more abundance, and more positive feelings into your life.” What even is that crap??? If anyone else said that they'd immediately be dismissed as delusional and too committed to woo-woo crystal magic BS. And yet the company self help app published this and sent it out en masse? Seriously?
Had a “motivational” meeting at work
I swear nothing makes me want to do less for a company I work at than hearing about how they're making record profits and want to further increase them, all without even the idea of raises 🤦️
He forgot pizza parties…
I work at a resort hotel and this week my boss decided to work me 6 days straight. I normally wouldn't have a problem with it but work has started to become increasingly difficult due to staffing and poor scheduling. This past Saturday, I had a coworker trigger a very intense panic attack, one that resulted in me vomiting and calling the suicide hotline to be admitted into the hospital for in patient treatment. My supervisor who watched the whole thing happen refused to be empathetic with me and instead reminded me of our attendance policy and how in order to make up for points lost, I had to work another week straight, essentially giving up my only day off. My attack lasted about an hour and I walked out of work. I went to the ER and we decided to do a few days of outpatient treatment til I…
