SEGA of America Workers Vote to Unionize
Apologies in advance for the essay. My department director recently retired, and soon after this the boss I reported to found a new job. I really enjoyed working with the two of them and they were really good mentors. The department director who replaced the one who retired is a disaster. And not just because learning a new job sucks and you're going to make mistakes – nah. She is bad at managing, lacking in the skills she needs for the job, she is abrasive (interrupts), and worst of all in my opinion, she lacks curiosity to learn. It's one thing to not know the nitty gritty details of a niche industry (government affairs for an animal welfare trade group), but to me the most damaging is the lack of curiosity to learn and her abrasiveness. This has shown up not just in how she manages internally, but how she…
Company’s trying to replace me
I work for an Asian company for a little more than year, through EOR in Canada. One day I was bored so went on my company's Linkedin, and came across a job ad hiring my position but in New York. I'm 200% positive they're trying to replace me because I remember 2 months ago when I asked for an additional headcount (I'm the only person on my team), and they said they didn't have the budget, the only way they could add another headcount is to hire one from Mexico or India. I kept my mouth shut for 3 weeks and been applying for jobs, till today a guy who applied for the job reached out to me asking for a chat to learn more about the job. At this point I feel like I should say something, should I confront my boss? Should I go talk to HR?
Called in sick, got doctors note. Told boss i went to the doc on my sick day. Boss never asked for sick note. 2nd day back at work im hit with a suspension for not providing doctors note. What are my rights here? In Canada
Long story short: It's really, really hard to get a job. Why? I don't know. But there's more to add to this. So come along. I'm 18 and I finished school last year. Exams, stress, you name it. Been through and never want to go through that again. I was supposed to go to college but I was very skeptical of it, it seemed scummy, more like a money grab than a good opportunity to get a good job. I cared more about career and money than anything else. So I didn't go. Of course, my parents were disappointed, and still insisted to go next year, so I just postponed my entry, nothing too hard to do. And then, you realize that there's time. I wanted to use this time to actually find an “apprenticeship”, a type of job that teaches you about the job it will lead you to…
I am a teacher at a private school but I don’t really have fun there. I don’t have a teaching degree but was hired to teach art but I am constantly looking forward to Friday. I feel I should have told them in the “exit interview” which was this past spring but I thought I would come back. But it wasn’t the case. If I get out now they could end up being pissed but I don’t think I want to go back if I can get a different job . My biggest complaint is that it is underpaid but fairly decent considering they take into account if someone has a teaching degree which is don’t
A family member of mine attended a retirement party for her neighbor, who just retired from working at a major fast food chain for over 30 years. I won't name the company, so I'll refer to it as “Burrito Alarm.” For background, her neighbor has down syndrome and has been working part time at the same location. And despite BA slowly cutting back his hours over the years, he remained a loyal hard worker for the company, rarely missing a shift. So naturally after all of that time, he wanted a retirement party because his friends were having one too. He even saved up some money to take a vacation with his family, and is elated that he finally gets some well deserved time off. At his party, one of my relatives asked his family if BA did anything special for his retirement. Guess what BA gave him? A paper…
2% raise while CEO got 28% raise
I had my yearly review today. I got the paltry standard 2% raise that the entire company got. Despite our inflation being 8%. No promotion, of course, even though I am overdue. Yet, a few months ago, the newspaper reported that the CEO of my company got a 28% pay raise. I am seasoned, knowledgeable worker with over 25 years experience. I’m also a single mom, having 2 kids on my own. So last year, I had to dig deep into savings…to pay for childcare. Not an exotic vacation or a fancy car, but to take care of my kids while I go to work. I know the kiddos were a huge expense that I took on myself, but this is such bullshit. I feel beaten down.
How do I find my company’s profits?
I'm about to do an employee satisfaction survey for the Goodwill I work at, and I want to be specific with my numbers in my answers. But, it's been really hard for me to find their most recent profit reports. I don't know if it's because they're not-for-profit company, or if that even matters, but if anyone has any idea how I can find it, I would really appreciate it! I want to take the opportunity to show the absurdity of what they pay their people versus their profits; and include productivity increase compared to wage increase just for fun. If you can help, please do. Thanks!
