owning your own business does not count for this discussion as doing (mostly) whatever you want is usually best. I think I have had much better outcomes the times I have had corporate gigs rather than jobs at small businesses. In my experience, small businesses pay a lot less, no benefits, less vacation, and you usually have to kiss ass to get a small raise. Hell, my last job paid about $13.00/ hr.(with a monthly commission ceiling, about $10/ hr. without), so even a whopping $8/ hr. raise or so would still be less than you could get at a WFH without all the ass kissing and not guaranteed outcome. Vacation was also one week. No room for promotion as the people who are at small businesses usually stay there for years if they do not get fired; bossman isn't gonna “make” a new position for you to pay you…

First, disclaimer: I'm not american, and I can't get involved in American affairs, but I firmly believe if any strong social movement came from America, its going to ripple across the global corporate empire. Hence why I'm posting this. You guys HAVE TO mobilise You can post about shitty bosses, anti-worker media articles, low wages, corrupt politicians all you want, but you won't achieve much without action. Create parties, organize meetings, push an agenda, protest bad policies, make online groups. Be. Active. Edit: Unions are a start, but are not enough. They can just help the employees of one company at worst and one industry at best. If you need something on a national scale, you need more than just individual unions

Best excuse for a sick day
Whats the best excuse? Indont usually call off but tomorrows slow and i want a mental health day. Whats your go to?
Coming up on his birth I knew attendance would be an issue so I tried to see what I could do to work with them. I tried to get FMLA set up for it, but they told me I hadn't been working there long enough. I was a month shy of what was required. So, when the time inevitably came and I called out for a week ( 3 days in the hospital then two days at home taking care of my fiancé with swollen feet and my newborn son) and on Friday I was told I would have to report to HR where I was given my notice of termination. With a new, one week old, son I am out every day trying to find a decent paying job to provide. It's so frustrating and difficult.
I work for a federal agency
I won’t say who, because I do generally like it despite the bullshit that comes with it and it’s against the rules to talk about it on social media. It’s a blue collar job if that gives you a hint. Anyways, my supervisor referred to upper management as “corporate” and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to laugh out loud or throw up in my mouth. We’re closer to a utility in my mind. This country is fucked with capitalist brain rot.
Why can’t we enjoy life like the rich?
I don't know if this is a rant or an opinion so i let you decide. The rich have money which they could't spend in dozen lifetimes. So they don't have to be crushed in long and hard work days and loose their health when they are in retirement age or even sooner. They can live off the most healthy food there is and get the best medical treatment science has to offer and with money they can pretty much solve all problems and live nearly stress-free. Today i have time off so i decided to ride with the bicycle in this summer day when nearly everybody of us folks are at work or school or whatnot. Naturally i didn't see many people on the streets. So it crossed my mind that rich folks can enjoy life as they please with their obscene wealth. This made me jealous. Even if…
ghosted at interview
no one shows up on zoom, im there from 10 minutes early until the end of the timeframe. called, no answer. gave it some time, get an email that night saying they've selected the candidate. i email the director of HR in my area directly and I get a call to come in for another interview. when they call me, the woman over the phone said they couldn't access the interview due to 'technical difficulties'. for the second interview, the lady mentioned a store location but i wasn't 100% sure where the interview would be, so i called & had to leave a voicemail with my name, number, and explaining that i was just going to assume the location otherwise. sure enough, i show up & the interview is actually at another location, 17 minutes away. this is a job i got laid off from with no notice from one…
