True or False a common complain

I keep seeing this complain people make. They keep saying if everything goes AI or automated then there will be no jobs so we can no longer get money to buy things. Is this True or False? It seems false to me. If everything gets automated, everything will be so abundant they are going to be free ain’t it? What’s your opinion?

Well I guess I’ll just come in sick from now on.

So I left early yesterday, and called out today. I was spending a lot of the time in the bathroom trying to hack up whatever I had. I started feeling slightly better at the end of the night, but only after I ate and threw up. And this morning, it showed up again and I'm having the same issue. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be freaking out, but I have these symptoms the same time as a few bug bites. So I'm both sick and super itchy, yay. And I don't have a car, so I'll be walking in 90-100 degree temperatures, plus I work outside. I had the store director remind me I've been calling out a lot recently (whether it was mental health or stomach issues), I feel like it's an implicit warning with the tone he had. And I would've just said screw it and…

What are you doing for income?

So, there’s still a massive shortage in the workforce everywhere. I’m just wondering for those who aren’t working – what are you doing for income? And what’s happening to your bills?

Forced to work on July 4th

You’re telling me that my boss is making me work on a national holiday? And that I get no holiday pay included by working on that day? And if I decided to take that day off I get no pay at all?! “Either you work a full shift or get a no pay day…sorry man.” But he gets the day off? EVERYONE that works at the city gets the day off. This is a government job man! I get off at 4:30 pm only to go to sleep at 9 pm due to the commute. The fireworks show up at 9 pm and later. I’ll have no time to celebrate with my family. What a joke! Even the temps get the day off!

I’m a European and I tried to apply for IT jobs in the US

And holy fuck, did it make me depressed. I honestly feel sorry for you yanks. Every company seems hell to work for. I've read a few job listings and I am surprised that some of their demands aren't violations of labour laws. I was looking for jobs in IT since I'd be paid double what I am making here. But at the cost of giving up my personal free time. Every IT job asks for 12 hour shifts, weekend and holiday availability, and always on call. How is that not illegal? In my country, it is illegal for my employer to contact me after hours. Oh, but they offer great benefits like 12 days paid vacation a year. REALLY?!!!! How can anyone live like this? Here are some of the ridiculous things American companies demand: Experience with on call support after hours and on weekends each employee may be expected…

People need property

There are two common threads running through all of the posts on this sub: feeling compelled to work for someone else, and not having enough to support oneself. The capitalist/communist dichotomy doesn’t address these issue because in either case all the means of production are concentrated in a few hands. The solution is distributism: widespread private ownership of the means of production. When you own your own property, you can grow whatever food you can’t afford from your wages. The more self-sufficient you become, the more choice you have about whom you work for. This system worked for hundreds of years and it can work again.

Am I wrong for taking new job?

I am a financial planner for a mid size company. We manage about $1 billion in assets. I have about 150 clients I work with but they belong to the firm not my book of business. I generally like the company and most of my co workers. I do not see eye to eye with my boss who happens to be the owner of the company. We have a big difference in personality. I’m very detailed and like to do things the right way the first time. He is very much old school mind set of being a salesman and doing anything it takes to get a new client. They do let me work from home 2 day a week since i have a two hour commute round trip. I have an opportunity to take a new job as the head of planning for a small RIA. It’s much less…

The Simpsons

So, it's become a joke inside and outside the show that apart from Marge having the occasional job, The Simpson family does really well on just Homer's income. They have a 4/5 bed house, with 3 living rooms, a seperate dining room, large kitchen, etc, two cars, etc. He is shown repeatedly to be a low earner. However, when The Simpsons first aired, this was still normal. A family could comfortably get by, in what we might now consider to be luxurious circumstances, on a single relatively small income. Sure the show exaggerates this concept but it's there. Anyone else feel like we're missing out nowadays? And how do we get back to this?

“Celebrate your personal Independance and the Independence of our great country!” …. by being at work all day…

8h shift today because sales reps can't read a damn calendar, and promised delivery this week. Good chunk of staff on vacation; those that aren't? Were “asked” to work today. (By ask I mean told there wasn't a choice) Parts suppliers closed for the week. Anyone else celebrating the 4th of July from their wage slave stations? Happy 4th of July
