You are not ‘sticking it’ to your bosses when you quit. Let them fire you with out cause.

This is just my general opinion, I am no expert, but I see a lot of people on here quitting bad jobs right before they were about to get fired. I think this comes from TV when they use the lines like “your fired” “you cant fire me I quit” to show how motivated they are. IRL this is a bad idea. General if you get fired with out a good cause you get unemployment that they have to pay for. You might get cobra that they also pay for. Keep in mind, your next employer can contact them, but unless you sign a waver for a back round check(bad idea) they cant even comment on your performance. Even if you do, 9/10 times they dont bother. Sending over legal forms to fill and empty position to all your previous employers is to much bother for most people in HR.

How do you guys go about selecting benefits for new jobs?

Hey guys I just get a new job and I’m filling out the usual paperwork to fully get signed up and ready before my hiring date. I do have a question about benefits since I do want to sign up for them since I’ll be moving from my hometown for this position. I’m a bit overwhelmed with these benefit options. I say that because I don’t know what I’ll need or what can come in handy. They got the usual medical, dental, vision, critical illness, accident, HSA, and legal care benefits. They have other benefit options but they don’t apply to me since I’m not married nor do I have any children. Any thoughts how I should approach this? Since I’ll be moving, I definitely want to be fully insured. And of course I want to cover all my bases since I’ll be moving to a place that I won’t…

My teammate makes $6 more than me, how do I bring it up to our manager?

Title. Me and dude have similar experience but mine is more relevant for our job, we started at the same time, he was new to the company I have been there a year, and he regularly calls out “sick” or shows up drunk/hungover. We are a team of 18 split (unevenly) depending on our specialties. I can’t say much about the job/company because I don’t want to lose it until I find another. I’m trying to switch depts or ok with leaving for the right pay of course. But for the time being I really want to see if I can make this job livable for a bit longer. Any advice is appreciated.

Put my 2 weeks notice in

Long post. TL/DR quitting my job because of corporate fuckery and piss poor management. I currently work for a well known multinational auto glass replacement company as a glass technician. The job has really gone downhill, especially during the past 2 years or so. I was initially hired to be a full time Tues-Sat schedule, with Sundays and Mondays off, with the promise that I could switch to Mon-Fri with the occasional Sat once my child started going to school. It worked great at the time because we were saving quite a bit of money by only needing daycare for 4 days a week instead of 5. The store manager (henceforth known as SM) was strictly management. They did not do any of the actual installing. Normally, that would be fine, because they would handle answering the phones and deal with the customers so that we could keep out in…

Apples and oranges

How do you reply to someone that says comparing today’s wages of the past is like comparing apples and oranges. Here are the 4 main arguments I see but am not sure how to respond: 1. Comparing COL today with earlier in the 20th century is cherry picking benefits and downsides since life expectancy was much lower in the recent past. 2. If people live in smaller cities/towns as they did 50/70 years ago then cost of living is lower. 3. The wages of the 50’s-70’s in the US were inflated relative to the world since we did not have the damage to infrastructure that other countries did so we had a relative increase in wealth and ability that has since been more evenly distributed across the world. 4. Population is much higher in the US so obviously things would be more expensive than they were when there was less…

A Call for Help

I never thought it'd come to this, but I'm asking for help on the internet. Hear me out, please. I'm interviewing for a job tomorrow and I want to continue being a stay-at-home Dad. I'm currently building a business and I fear that I will lose all hope and desire to continue this with having to return to work. August will make one year since I left my job in pursuit of this dream. I honestly fear that the despair I get at a mundane 9-5 will crush me into giving up on everything I've worked so hard to build and achieve so far. My wife has been begging for work, but cannot find anything, remote or otherwise. She's been a stay at home Mom for three years now and wants to make money. She had a college degrees, as well and would like to use it, if possible. We…
