For pretext: I work for a company that consists on several stores all overseen by a central office staff. The office makes various policies to standardize everything in the stores, including policies dictating how to handle requested days off. The policy states that management has to turn in a completed schedule for the next week the Thursday before at noon, which is also employees cutoff time for turning in a leave request form. The story. This morning (thursday)at 8:15am I turned in a leave request form for the 15th. My crew lead who does not have anything to do with making the schedule then started yelling at me for turning it in after my assistant manager had made the schedule, which I had no way of knowing she had done. My assistant manager witnessed this wrongful reprimand. I later tried to discuss specifically the wrongful reprimand with my assistant manager…

Vapegate made me walk out
Hey everybody! First time poster, but I think I may have a story you’ll like 🙂 for context, I work as a civil servant at my local court house. It’s that classic “the job sucks, but the people are great” type of scenario. Stressful, demanding work with insane deadlines, backlog work you can never get on top of, phone ringing off the hook, and upper management is more like a mythical creature than actual people… I had told my girlfriend it would make a great setting for a sitcom type show like The Office. The office is relatively small, I think at its peak there were 18 of us, so even though I hadn’t been working there long I got to know everyone pretty well. And yeah, they were nice people… A court house never runs out of work, and in particular our courts were so heavily overbooked no one…
Power Went Out
I work in an office and the power went out. My place of work is generally pretty decent but oh my fuck. How come businesses use these ppwer outages as a way to swing their dick? My manager told my two brown noser coworker they had to file. In the warehouse that is an oven when the ac is ON in the office (and now no power, no AC at all) , in the DARK, using our cell phones as lights when we need both hands to access these giant file cabinets and file things appropriately. I became annoyed quickly and left, only to find every other single coworker mingling in the front talking and relaxing while just three of us ladies filed in the dark and now my other two coworkers are annoyed I walked away. I asked for at least a flashlight and they were actually gonna get…

Bad weather? That’s snow excuse!
I've been posting little anecdotes about my work life and here's one I just remembered: I worked second shifts 5 days a week and first shift on Saturdays. One Friday evening there was a shitload of snow in the forecast, in fact I was worried about how I was going to get home, sleep, and come back to work in 4-5 hours. As the boss was leaving for that evening he said to me, “With the bad weather coming in, I expect a bunch of people won't make it in tomorrow morning so I REALLY need you to come in, OK?” Mind you, I was in the exact same situation as everyone else, it wasn't any easier or safer for me to drive there. He just figured that the bad weather excuse shouldn't apply to me.
I’m not sure if I like my job
I just started my new job in May of this year. So, it’s only been about 2months that I’ve been working here. The majority of my employment history includes non-profit organizations. With that being said, I’m used to working in environments that are understaffed, siloed, cliques, and no one ever knows the “budget”. I’m Basically the executive directors right hand for all programs, events and administrative support. I had a relationship with the organization before joining the staff; I’m a content creator and I use their studios to produce my work. I’m not sure if I like my job or my colleagues yet. Don’t get me wrong , everyone is nice , helpful, & polite. But whenever I attend meetings , they seem so unorganized. Most of the staff has worked for the organization for at least a minimum 5yrs with the senior staff having about 10-14yrs under their belt.…
Tipping everywhere
I'm tipping for everything these days because the machines ask for it. Since i can afford it and assume it goes to the employees, i do. Am i being an idiot and these are actually lining the pockets of the higher ups or does it actually go to the service workers? I'm questioning it because its everywhere and i never expect companies to do whats right for their workers
Hi everyone, normally I don't post here but I'm so pissed off at this point and I'm not sure where else to turn. So the company I work for recently went Union. A clause in the Union contract is that workers are supposed to get an extra $1 an hour while they are training a new employee. This dollar is given to the employee for the entire week of work, regardless of how many hours were worked, as long as said employee spent time training a new employee during that week. My work place has a lot of turnover so this is important. My coworker (Bob) has been training me for the past 7ish months, and he has gotten inconsistent trainer pay during this time period. Sometimes he was fully paid for training me, other times not. Sometimes he was partially paid, other times he wasn't. After going over the…
Can’t Do It Anymore
There is no rhyme or reason to any of this. Just my thoughts spilling. If it's not allowed you can delete it, no hard feelings. I truly keep wondering how long I can keep adhering to the life this capitalist society has made me live. I am in my mid 20s and work a fairly stress free 40 hour a week job, but the pay is garbage. All of the health benefits are being taken by people in their literal 70s and 80s who do nothing yet refuse to retire and let the state pay for their health care. So I don't have health care and just barely don't qualify for Medicaid. I come out even every single month. Exactly half goes towards bills and half replaces the money that I just lost to bills so my bank stays stagnant. I know that is a blessing because some people make…
I'll make this as short as possible and keep it to relevant information. A little background first. My partner has moved out of hospitality and into HR a few years ago and has had a hard time with her past few years. Her first job was with gusto but was let go after a year due to them outsourcing the department to another country. Her next job was with a big hotel chain but there were some ethical issues with the company so she moved on from them after about 18 months. Then she found her current job. On paper this job looked amazing. Great benefits, hybrid remote, stories of $10+k raises and bonuses, etc. However she was hired into a coordinator role so her pay wasn't great but we figured she would be there in no time and the bonuses would help us pay for our first house one…
