Hi I currently work at a utility company in power generation and I also served in the navy. I have been curious lately about the anti-work sub Reddit. I enjoy working less, I recently switched to a 4 10s schedule and it has been amazing for my work life balance when it is consistent. However in my sector there are not enough skilled workers to take on the work load needed to run the power grid. My company is literally always hiring apprentices or journeyman and just can never seem to have enough workers to meet the demands of power line & generation failures/ maintenance. I end up working 6-7 days a week 12 hour shifts very often and I’ve already hit 800 OT hours for the year. I’m curious what the solution is from the anti work perspective? How can we reduce hours worked if there is a skilled…

Where is the middle ground? How are we expected to survive in a economy where we are either too overqualified or underqualified TO be chosen? I am having difficulty finding jobs (for pure survival) since I can't find any in my field after graduating school due to rigorous standards in the market. I am thankful to be staying with family who understand the struggle. Even low level jobs I apply for are intimidated by my degree and experiences. Like damn, I just want some money to survive for fuck's sake.
has to be illegal right
Saw an accountant for the first time today. They made me realise just how bad my finances are at current. I'm currently a bartender, which I love, but the place I work at is giving me fuck all hours because the multi-million dollar hotel chain I work for can't spare an extra coupla dollars on me. I seriously just want it to be over. I'm only 22. The reason I'm in so much fucking debt is because I was in foster care, and the government kicked me out at 18 with no real life skills. I'm only just now getting my shit together and still don't understand it all. I have bpd, and have been on and off manic for the last few years until this year where I'm on a good medication balance, and for the first time in a fucking long time, actually have a stable home. Now…
I’ve previously made a few post about my job. I finally found a new place to work and tomorrow is my last day. I didn’t give a notice, I scheduled a vacation next week to burn my vacation time. I won’t be returning the following Monday. What really tickles me to death is I’m the 4th welder to quit in 2 weeks. I’m the only one the company allows to run the parts that I run due to the customer being so particular. They will be a week behind then have to figure out who to run them and train them to do so. I’m figuring that place will be a real shit show in about two weeks.
Why is it Either OR?
Remember, Employers Don’t Care about You
Short story i was reflecting on earlier today. Years back, I'd worked for a company via a temp agency. Was there for 2 years, constantly being told they were going to make me staff and get all the perks that came with it. Eventually, I'd got tired of waiting and began applying elsewhere. The timing couldnt have worked out better because they did finally to make me staff (all for a $0.25 raise, only actual perk was no seasonal lay offs). As fate would have it I'd been interviewing at other companies and received an offer on my very 1st day on staff. I spent the day filling out my transfer paperwork and getting new ID photo. End of the day I put in my two week notice and was immediately brought the department heads office. They were furious and fired me right then and there claiming I wasted their…
