Small businesses advertising unrealistic job expectations like…

Something I came up with to make fun of “nobody wants to work anymore” companies that bitch on fb.

“HoPe YoU’rE fEeLiNg ReFrEsHeD after your holiday.” Obviously not.

Why does this always have to be the first thing people say to you when you’re dragged back to reality? Obviously I don’t feel refreshed. I DID, last week, when I was sitting in 30 degree heat by a pool in the nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed at, drinking whiskey and listening to rock music. When I was swimming in the sea, stargazing on top of a mountain, and taking a day trip to a water park. When I was eating in restaurants most evenings and taking long walks to look around the country I’ve never had chance to visit before. Now? Now I’m back at my desk of sadness and realizing that holidays make work WORSE rather than refreshing you, just until you’ve been back long enough to forget you had one and settle back into the baseline, day-to-day sadness. So, no – I’m about as refreshed as an…

What kitchen temperature would be considered an unsafe working environment?

I work at a restaurant in the southeastern US and our ac has been broken for a month or 2, management put off calling in to get it fixed for that whole time and then this past week I came in for a night shift and was told that maintenance had come in that day talking about there's nothing they can do and management had nothing else to say. It gets something like 95 degrees on the line and it's the middle of summer, is there anything I can do?

Stop Dying for Your Job

Just … stop it. Get some help. Listen I love my job, and I need my job, but if my job put my life on the line in unsafe conditions I would quit, because I’d rather be homeless than dead and I can always find another job. I get that we are all horrified that UPS drivers have literally died because they don’t have air conditioning but I can’t wrap my head around how it got to that point. They aren’t chained to the trucks. You’re a UPS driver, that’s a good resume right there! Get a new job! I mean holy shit. I have a child to provide for, I have responsibilities to elderly family members, I have no one providing a safety net for me, and I have been homeless before, and there’s still not an icicles chance in hell I would stay at a job with conditions…

Expect to “love” all aspects of a job.

This is something I've noticed a lot in interviews. You're expect to LOVE every single aspects of a job, and be literally up for everything. Of course no one actually does and the single rule you can rely in during interviews is everyone is lying. Most of the work I've done has been designing stuff. I got into a position at a job where I did paperwork 70% of the time. I was actively lied to about this position (not the first time and likely not the last). When I talk to new possible employers about this position I mention the fact I did around 70% paperwork. People sort of lose their minds about it. I specifically looking for a role that's more design focused. I even express I understand paperwork is part of every job, but I don't want it to be the main focus of my job. Nor…

Forcing us to stop WFH isn’t going to go well!

Management has insisted that everyone has to be in the office starting today. There’s not enough desks for everyone since they’ve redesigned the office/made new hires during COVID. I’m sat at my desk with a cup of coffee waiting for people to start arriving and chaos unfold…

Pay Equity

I’m 100% in favor of pay equity laws. When they work! Got hired in a gov role, landed a good salary, but still tried to negotiate. I was told it was not negotiable as my 10+ years of relevant work and management experience had gone through a central pay equity review. Cool, so be it. Hired 3 people in my first year – all 3 junior staff w/o supervisory duties. All 3 have less than 5yrs of relevant experience. All 3 job offers that HR spit out of the pay equity blackbox were for more money than I make currently! No one at HR can explain how the pay equity analysis works, and they won’t run my resume through it again…🤦‍️ At least my staff got the bag though
