About 1/2 of my paycheck is from tips
I work at a small locally owned restaurant. Decent business, less than 10 employees. We're paid less than minimum wage for the state but do receive tips. And I fucking hate it. Lately I've found myself getting angry when customers don't tip. Not because I think I deserve it, I'm making coffees and handing out food, whatever. But I'm angry because I know if I don't get tips I don't get a lot of money. I've had to stop myself multiple times in the past few months and remind myself it's not the customers fault. I hate tipped wages.
Temperature Control
Hey ya’ll, first time poster here and I was wondering if you guys had any experience in air conditioning going out in your workplace. My workplace is having major issues with this and nothing seems to be being done about it. I’m not sure what to do, but it makes working incredibly difficult during these hot summer temperatures. I already went to management and HR. Does anyone have any advice on what to do and/or have experience with this situation?
Thought this may be appreciated here.
Starting orientation at the new job tomorrow and it got me all nostalgic. Years ago, I applied for a low level management position with a landscaping company. Worked off and on as a freelance landscaper for many years. I also had management experience under my belt. The hiring manager absolutely loved my answers during the interview process. He also quizzed me with more advanced questions regarding yard / decor care. At one point, he sketched a couple shrubs, told me some details about each one, and asked me to run him through the steps of how to evenly trim them and whatnot. I passed with 100%, even on his trick questions he spat out (he actually had to Google a couple answers just to be sure). He was so excited to hire me. Then he asked me the final question: “Are you completely fluent in Spanish?” I replied “No. I…
The Final Update!
So, a few months back I posted about how I worked for a guy who didn’t want to pay me, and I can officially say I’ve now been paid and everything is done. So the original post is linked, and I wanted to answer some questions. Big question: what’s the final amount I got? After 4 months of fighting to get paid the $172, I ended up getting two checks, one for $174, and another for $480 Why isn’t it more: The state was way, way, way too nice to him and let him off easy. He was one day away from having to pay full penalties, after ignoring them for 48 days, because they wanted to give him more time, he replied, didn’t send the payment for 2.5 more weeks, and basically got away because the state let him. Since then, his company has reviews from more employees after…
Boss asked if I would work Friday this week. I said yes because it was during a meeting and I didnt have time to check what days I already am scheduled. Then she threw me another 8 hours on top of that. So im scheduled 56 hours this week, can I simply tell her I cannot work Friday at all? I told her long ago I only want 40 hours. I work in Minnesota if that helps.
If you want change, real change.
If youre sick of being dependent on a boss who couldnt give a fuck about you, subservient to middle-management asslickers, unreasonable customers, stupid shifts, all the other bullshit you face working for the man, then you need to stop playing in the mans game. You will never win a game against the guy who makes the rules of the game and owns the board. At best, you become his pet at the cost of your soul. If thats what you want, leave, im not interested in you. “But how do i stop playing the game, crapitalism affects every aspect of my life .” Thats right. It does affect every aspect of your life. So change your life. So where to start? You can immediately start by switching who you buy your groceries from. Switch as many of your purchases to small businesses. You might not like small businesses, but they…
This is my works sick/call out policy.
At the place I’m employed in Maryland, we’re not “allowed” to call out if we’re sick unless we have a doctors note.
