While you guys cry about which air conditioned building you have to work in, try to remember there are tons of folk about to leave home to work outside in parts of the country under extreme heat conditions. Just saying, try having a bit of empathy and a touch of gratitude. Saw a post here of a guy saying he wanted more money cuz he no longer got free lunch at work, or people saying “fine, if I have to work from office I want my travel time/expense covered”, like who do you think you are? Y'all act like this was a long standing right that is being ripped away, when reality is for most you only started WFH 3 years ago. You may win the battle, but I guarantee you'll lose the war. If your job can be done remotely, it is only a few jumps from being replaced…

I plan on bringing this up with the hr folks today. It's been 92+ days since I was hired. I was hired through a staffing agency, if that's relevant. Im pretty sure we employ enough people that they are required to offer insurance as per the ACA. What information do I need to know when I speak with them today? When the ACA was first passed, I worked for a company that had lost their provider. When I received my tax info for that year, they had noted that I was offered insurance during this period. I don't want to have to deal with that sort of situation again with this employer as I definitely DO want insurance.
“I don’t have an answer for you.”
Recently I received a job opportunity an hour away. It’s an opportunity that would literally change my life. I did what I thought to be the sensible thing and let my bosses know about the situation. They asked what the offer entailed and from previous conversations I thought they would give me a counter offer. To my surprise there were constant questions about the offer I received but no attempt to make staying any more desirable. When I finally asked what they could offer I was told “I don’t have an answer for you.” I do enjoy my job, but with that it solidified taking the new position.
So I applied for a maintenance job with my new company and in the interview the manager even said when he started about 15 years ago he knew nothing about maintenance in a warehouse setting and they trained him. But guess who they decided NOT to hire? What a fucking load of horse shit this job market is there's always someone more qualified than you that somehow manages to take the job you thought was yours.
Good jobs do exist (keep your heads up)
Good jobs (and bosses) do exist. I've had shitty bosses from hell, low play, yelled and cursed at, etc the works. My most recent job I actually liked and got along with my boss, great guy, but low pay. It wasn't until the threat of me leaving he gave me more money (~$8k/yr more). Knowing I like my boss and job for the most part, I stayed. But this new job offer lingered on me. In short they came up in money 2x and overall I am now making ~14k more a year. Attached is the pic from one of the owner's emails. I've now been here over a month and it's safe to say it wasn't fake to lure me in! Both pay and bosses are great! For those who've struggled like many of us have, don't let up on the search. I've been looking since last November, maybe…
I thought this was antiwork. So many people feeling bad for taking a single day off and other things that should be non-issues. Advice for interviews, celebratory new job posts, it’s just weird. Seems like the wrong sub for that.
