Started a new Exec Sous job this week, one of the duties of the chef is to approve all clock-in's and clock-out's for all BOH employees, at the time of punch in/out I need to put my manager number into the computer and approve their punch in/out. There are several cooks that work the morning shift on one name and number, and then work the evening shift on different name and number, obviously to avoid paying overtime. With me needing to put my manager number in to approve these punches, I am very uncomfortable. My specific concern is, to whom do I report this to? Is there any recourse for an employee being directly asked by their employer to do something illegal? TIA! EDIT: Located in Illinois & I have sent an email to the state DOL general inquiry address

I work part time, due to being in college for Masters then hopefully Doctorate, at a small flower shop in Mississippi for a little background. Lately, my boss, who owns the shop, has been cutting my hours (cut by more than 60%), for around the past 5 weeks now. I can't think of any possible reason why, other than him just being greedy. My work ethic is not the problem, I know for a fact, that I do more (production wise – numbers prove it) than a guy that's been there for longer than I have, and the other girl she's alright but makes lots of mistakes and her designs really aren't the best. They're both full time employees but he doesn't cut their hours at all. He's also doesn't let us discuss pay rates amongst ourselves and I honestly wouldn't trust discussing mine with the other two because I'm…
My store’s playlist of background music is literally less than an hour long?? I actually rather like my job, but if I have to go the next two months listening to Ed Sheran’s “Bad Habits” over five times a day, this might be a very short-lived summer job
My job is currently mandating a return to office. I have been working with our HR department and my primary doctor regarding getting an accomodation to continue to work from home because of my anxiety. So far I have given them 3 forms from my PCP, but was given an ultimatum email today that they will not be able to provide me the WFH “Accomodation” despite of all the documentation from my doctor and therapist I've sent. I was given the “Please be advised, failure to follow the company's return to inperson work policy will result in discipline, and potentially termination.” shtick. Now I have absolutely hated this job and have wanted to leave for years now. I have a safety net in place that allows me to just put in my two weeks right now. My question is, is it better for me to have them terminate me? I…
My mom works a part time job for free.
My mother is a member of a church that some people often call a cult that the creators of South Park made a musical about. I’m not here to debate anything about the religion itself, I have plenty of issues but also see the happiness it brings to people. One of the things the church does is call people to “volunteer” positions. These often are Sunday school teachers or other church related positions but they also recently started calling people as building cleaners instead of paying a cleaning staff. The position my mother is serving in is much worse than that. Two years ago my mother received a calling for what is basically a document processor. She takes scans of historic government documents and manually keys in the information. What does a church need with government records? Good question! It’s not actually for the church but for a for-profit company…
I talked to my boss about raise, because I was up for one, he said I earned it, but me getting married in January, increased his insurance payments for me by $500 a month, and our unborn baby will increase it another $500. So based on his math, if I were to hypothetically have 10 kids, I'd be making $60,000 a year more, without my actual salary increasing even a dime.
I’m petty so I want to respond
I applied to a job and then I thought they weren’t interested and forgot about them because I didn’t hear back for a month but then out of the blue this lady wanted to interview me. We set up a time and then she cancelled because she was sick, set up another time, cancelled because she was still sick and then she picked a day to interview me without asking if it was going to work. I decided to accommodate her asked to do a phone interview rather than a video chat so that I could do it during my lunch break. Before the interview she emailed me a list of questions she was going to ask and then wrote out the STAR method of answering questions. I thought that was a bit unusual but I took a look at the questions to loosely get an idea of what I…
How much should yelling be allowed?
Started a new job and I'm trying to understand if some of my coworkers are speaking the truth or simply have really low standards for how they should be treated. It is a public-facing utility job where we take phone calls for customers. Many people who call us will straight up start yelling, insulting, etc., Basically throwing an adult tantrum over the phone. If you try to clarify, they'll continue to shout over you. They aren't saying anything constructive, just hurling insults or complaints. My response has been to directly tell the person something to the effect of, “Sir/Ma'am, I can't help you if you are going to yell or talk over me. I want to help you and tell you what your options are but I can't do that if you're talking over me. Do you want to hear your options or no?” For the record, no one has…
I gave my two weeks notice on Monday of this week. Today my supervisor said “so since next week is a holiday, you can make tomorrow your last day. Or today since I’ll be in tomorrow. It’s up to you.” I said “okay I will think about it and let you know.” Thinking I could keep my said last day of next Friday. She just texted me “was today your last day or is it tomorrow? I didn’t get a chance to talk to you before you left.” I said “next Friday will be my last day.” She responded, “tomorrow will be your last day.” I am in an at will state. Do I have any ground here for anything? I am floored by all of this. I did nothing but be professional and kind and courteous. And they hired a younger girl who has been the only source of…
