Rant about vacation and my bosses reaction

Its not that I'm even surprised anymore. I took 2 weeks off back in April for June 26th till July 5th. I didn't think to schedule the weekend before to have off because I always had weekends off. Even in the past I was actually scolded for scheduling weekends off on my vacation time (that i never got to use because work or family needed me) because it insinuated that “I didn't think my manager could do his job” Surprisingly the vacation time was granted and when I was scheduled next week and reminded him I was on vacation (with a time stamped text saying I was going away) He was quick to reschedule everything. Getting the schedule now i see… I'm scheduled weekends. I tell him about it and he goes on about how “2 weeks is too much to ask” (i asked for a week and 4 days)…

No yearly review

I recently hit my 1 year mark at my current job. No one’s mentioned anything about having my yearly review. We got paid today and I noticed on my payslip that my hourly rate got increased by 60 cents, which is like a 2% raise. Is that normal, does it suck, should I say anything about not having a review or just let it go and be glad I got something?

Can Ya’ll Stop Blaming the Departments and Start Blaming the Business?

A lot of posts here blame management, HR, or their department head for their work life being intolerable. News flash, it’s intolerable for everyone and 99% of your complaints are what owners and executives force their underlings to impose upon staff. You really think your manager is having the time of their life working with skeleton crews because the owners refuse to hire anyone? You think HR sits in their office all day thinking “Pizza parties will fix it”? People can only operate within the structure of the company and what the folks in power allow, middle management gives certain types of people power trips but for the most part they’re making literally $2 more an hour, or getting salary and working 50-60 hours. Stop posting random screenshots of managers telling you if you don’t come in your fired. Tell us what company you work for that allowed or possibly…

Manager will not honor time off.

These fucking dealerships man. Told my boss I needed a half day today a month and a half ago. Went to remind him and since he scheduled someone’s vacation time with my half day I’m fucked out of time. Every request for time off no matter how much time in advanced I’m given a hard time. Is there anything I can do? I’m in Connecticut so the laws favor the employer it seems. Please help. Need some good counter arguements or points in the right direction.

Not me crying because a DoorDash customer gave me a huge tip this morning.

I had a $100+ door dash order for Chick-Fil-A this morning. It's wet, rainy, windy as hell. I'm only door dashing to get any extra income (my ex still hasn't paid June's child support and at this point, I need whatever income I can get) and tomorrow I have an interview to be a waitress at a Cracker Barrel so I am really crossing every finger and toe that I get this job…especially after seeing another user post about how well they're doing by being a waitress. I ended up delivering the person's food but they had marked the option “hand it to me” instead of leaving it at their door. My kid was in the car, I'm getting soaked trying to shield this person's food. They open the door, take the food, I turn around to run back to my car and they go “Hey wait!” so I turn…

GF guilty about leaving job UPDATE: Message from GF

Here's the original post. Hi everyone! OP's GF here :)) I wanted to say thank you to everybody for the encouragement (and to the people accusing me of abuse as well, because those replies were actually pretty funny; I would never do anything to hurt OP, nor would I ever force them into helping me deal with my episodes. I'm working on learning to cope with them healthily and have been able to, at least recently, go a notable amount of time without self-harm). I talked with OP about it when it came up and had already decided on not going back, so this post was more about feeling more confident in my decision; a number of my coworkers, some of whom I consider friends, have tried discouraging me from quitting, which made me doubt my decision. I've been at this job for a long time and have grown close…

I just can’t believe that single-income families ever existed.

I (22F) read posts on this sub and others about families growing up in the 80s, 90s, even 2000s who lived middle-class lives on one parent’s salary. The parent could make a very average income, and provide well for their family. I just can’t believe that this was ever possible. I live in what’s considered an average COL city; I’m a college grad, and I make $47K/year. My fiancé is also a college grad, and makes $43K. We live in a 530 square foot, one bedroom apartment. We both have student loans. After our student loan payments restart, I have no idea how we’ll be able to ever afford a house. I’ve run numbers again and again, and it looks like we won’t be able to save up a 10% down payment for a cheaper house for at least another 12 years (and that’s assuming home prices don’t go up…).…
