I work in the middle of iowa at a family owned business with less than 40 employees. My boss clearly treats people differently if you know him from his personal life and not just as an employee. For example there's an older guy that's essentially hated by everyone in the ware house, he's relieved multiple complaints from various different people about him and nothing happens to him. But as soon as me and another younger dude accidentally mess up an order we received then we were talked to and treated like idiots. The bosses son also gets severe special treatment. If you work in the warehouse your allowed to listen to earbuds as long a they are wireless that way they don't get caught in any of the machines. The son isn't just listening to his phone but he full on watches movies and YouTube and stuff. There was a…

Title: Unveiling Employer Tactics: The 30-Hour Workweek Cap and Evasion of Employee Benefits Introduction: In the United States, access to healthcare and other benefits is a critical concern for employees. While companies are expected to provide certain benefits to their workers, there is a growing trend among some employers to exploit loopholes and avoid their obligations. One such tactic gaining popularity is the enforcement of a 30-hour workweek cap, which allows employers to evade providing essential benefits like healthcare. This article sheds light on how this practice adversely affects employees and exposes the ways in which employers are circumventing their responsibilities. The 30-Hour Workweek Cap: By setting a maximum of 30 hours per week as a threshold, employers strategically position themselves to skirt the legal requirements associated with providing benefits. This practice predominantly affects part-time employees, making it a prevalent concern for individuals who rely on these jobs for income…
Employer doesn’t want to pay overtime
I work shift work, 7 days on 7 days off. They told me I had to switch crews which meant working a double shift, I was originally scheduled to work may 3-10, and may 17-24 but I ended up working may 3-10 and 17-31. Now they don't want to pay me overtime for the extra week that I worked. I signed an averaging agreement which I believe this doesn't fall under. I think I have a case to go to the labor board with this. This is in Alberta, Canada by the way. Any advice?
Ever increasing requirements
Have you noticed how job requirements just keep increasing while wages barely change? I remember a time when having a smartphone was more of a luxury and not expected. These days it’s like they want you to have not only your own car (public transit doesn’t even cut it anymore) but a smartphone specifically. It cant even be just a regular phone or an analog phone. Nope. These people are straight up putting that they expect you to have a smartphone in the job posting— a smartphone and reliable transportation (aka a car)— for jobs that only pay like $15 an hour. No, they don’t provide the phone for you. You have to supply it and already have one before you even apply. Employers used to supply their employees with phones if they expected them to have one for their job. Now they expect you to just already have one…
After many months of digging, I have finally found proof that the time with my boss was sworn in under oath, and asked questions, that she lied. The recording is extremely traumatic for me to hear. I haven’t been able to bring myself to it. But I have the whole trial recorded for unemployment, specifically her being sworn in, her being asked a question from me, her denying a call took place, which was her searching for new employees while, I was on FMLA. I now have a copy of the voicemail and the transcript that proves she was lying. I was going to post it on their Facebook page. They are a school district. This is outside of the timeframe for me to be able to legally do anything about it. But I am hurt. And she got away with perjury.
Guess antiwork has failed.
Back to work y'all. It has been fun and all but the whips are back! Antiwork stopped at 2.6 million members, guess it's not that popular anyway.
We recieved our RTO orders and I'll have to commute 4hrs a day. Problem is I'm so tired at the end of the day I cannot legally drive home and I cannot afford a motel or hotel for last minute overnight stays and we do not have defined work hours, but is expected to exceed 8-5pm. Also cannot afford to move or rent in that city as it exceeds my pay. I have a designated parking spot and I'm planning on using my pop up tent potentially M-F so I'm at work on time and not endangering myself driving. How do you think this will end for me? I've run out of options and I'm not quitting.

Still a “middleweight” after 15 years
I’ve been working for a large company as a designer for about 15 years. I would argue that I have far more skills than most of the people on my team (we have a department wide skills matrix that clearly shows this) and people come to me for allsorts of problem-solving. I know a lot more programs than they do. I have more capabilities in different areas. I have even lead our company’s branding for the past 4 years. I have taken every single opportunity for learning/up-skilling they have given me over the years. I can do CGI, photography, cinematography, branding, animation, graphic design, print, digital, coding, editing, music production, pretty much anything you can throw me creatively and to a high standard and have received several design awards that a fair amount of senior people have not. I brought this up with my manager in a 1 to 1…
Absolutely Exhausted
Since the world is on fire, I've been desperately trying to find another, higher paying job. I have a very extensive resume that includes managerial work and I have a college degree. Means absolutely nothing now, but hey. My current job is a set schedule (always), good health/dental/vision, and I am now contributing to a retirement plan. I have optional overtime. I don't have children and a retirement plan is one of the only chances I have at a semi-stable future in my old age. The pay is garbage. I only make $11. I finally got a job offer with a company I've wanted to work for and it would be a minimum $5 pay increase plus additional, fancy benefits. Found out today, before my interview, they don't ever hire in at full time. Most people have to wait years to receive full time. Some weeks are 20 hours and…
