My wife was let go from her employer yesterday, one week before having to leave on a week-long annual military training for the Navy Reserve. We live in Texas. She had been working for this company for 9 months as a project manager and had just finished clearing their backlog of installs (they do solar). She told me they pulled her into a meeting and told her that she was not a good fit for the company, and the fact that she had to leave on annual military training “throws a wrench in this whole thing”. They offered her $3,000 and wanted her to sign this long document a couple of things stood out to me, which made us hesitant. “Employee represents that she has not, and agrees to not, file any lawsuit or claim against the Company based on any events, whether known or unknown, occurring prior to the…

Call Center Work Attire Rant
i don’t know if this is just me or not, but my work said that men cannot wear shorts. i work in a call center where we are not facing our clientele. women are allowed to skirts, dresses that expose their legs; but when i asked if i (22m) could wear a pair of really nice shorts, they said that would go against the dress code. note – i live in a state where it can get well above 90°f in the summertime and is males are still expected to wear PANTS. can someone please make this make sense to me? i view it as unfair tbh (yes, i know life is unfair) but why am i going to sweat my ass off and be uncomfortable if i am going to be working 10+ hours?

I, (18M) called out of work last night because my girlfriend fell ill and had to leave work early. For context she lives with us but my parents are out of state right now. She left early from work due to a pounding headache and vomiting and had a low fever. Since nobody else was home I figured it was best not to leave her alone for the night in the event she started feeling worse or just simply needed assistance because she was under the weather so I made the decision to call out of work with as much notice possible.(7 hours ahead of my shift, and nobody else was needed to cover last minute as there was another person scheduled the same night too, and the job is not strenuous or overwhelming for a single person, I work alone constantly with no issues. They found out I didn’t…
