I work for a company that advertises that the contract includes FREE housing year round. We take a significantly lower hourly than the same position somewhere else in exchange. I’ve been with them for several years now and they have been true to their word. Until this year. Suddenly we are being “taxed” $200 w month and charged a $20 a month cleaning fee… when we are directly responsible for cleaning our own living space… is this legal? When they say specifically free housing in all their contract descriptions?

Restaurant jobs sound terrible
Why would anyone work a restaurant job? From the sounds of it, they pay minimum wage, hours are not flexible, no benefits and it’s really taxing work. Why not work a city job then? Way better benefits and pay most likely the same. Is this a small town USA thing where no government jobs near you ?

How do-able is this?
There was no pay. My grandmother, a second mother growing up, had a pension from my grandfather and a little bit of savings. So, she was supposed to pay me herself. I wouldn't accept. Instead she covered my bills, mobile phone payment, and a few other things I might need. Then it add up too much. Didn't have a whole lot of bills.
