Minimum wage = Loss of body autonomy
So my mom and I were at the mall today and we stopped in at a shoe store. The girls there complimented my hair (I have it dyed bright blue and purple). “We’re not allowed to do that here.” She told me. “You’re not allowed to dye your hair?” “Only natural colours. So I’m always jealous when I see anyone with bright colours.” As my mom and I left I told her I didn’t think the girls were being paid enough for the company to be able to tell them what they could and couldn’t do with their hair. My mom agreed. She said as long as it’s clean and neat it shouldn’t matter. Honestly, I feel like workplaces shouldn’t be allowed to tell people what they can and can’t do to their bodies. Clothing sure? You want them to look presentable, but hair? That crossed a line.
Dislike working alongside manager
I got a student job working at a front desk. I have to work alongside a manager. I don’t like working with the manager because I feel like I have no discretion and have to follow everything. All I need to really do is get my tasks done, but the manager is really particular with things. They always remind me to do things. I don’t think it hurts to do things my way. I’m not a person who likes to follow strict rules. They expect me to put in a lot of effort when helping people, but I don’t get paid that much so im not gonna go out of my way to help someone. I just follow the handbook and whatever it says. I feel stressed being watched all the time and being super close to the manager. I’m worried about getting fired because I’ve been making mistakes and…
Taking away PPTO for religious reasons
So my gf works at Walmart full time and she needed a Saturday off for her confirmation. She’s talked to her coach about clearing her points off because her coworker was able to switch with her so she wouldn’t need to put any time in. Just checked now and 7 hours of ppto have been deducted and the app says she wasn’t even paid for that day either. She has talked to the coach and the coach says he does not know what happened. Any advice would be appreciated thank you.
Well, now they started accusing everyone who talked negative about them that it was one person behind it – Me and those reviews are considered as “fake” because they think I'm the one “posting” them on purpose. This is the original Reddit post where I've talked about this threats. This is the one and only review I have re-posted not long ago (look the first one from the bottom; also make sure to have a translator): * https://www.joberty.rs/it-kompanija/879/factor-blue-doo/razgovor-za-posao Another fun story: The company edited their original response (the one that contained all of that pathetic insults) with a new and more polite one. Also, the original response had an enormous likes/dislikes ratio before they realized their bot mission was a complete failure… Luckily, there is thing called Web Archive which still contains the old cached page before the edit went through (make sure to prepare a translator): https://web.archive.org/web/20230510150727/https://www.joberty.rs/it-kompanija/879/factor-blue-doo/razgovor-za-posao The original…
The Exceptions
I'm just starting a job for a locally owned fresh foods market and the owner has got to be one of the friendliest and nicest people I have ever met. He's a prime example of how to do business right. He respects his employees and his customers. and builds meaningful relationships with each and every one of them. Half the customers who come in smile and greet him by name when they see him. For all the horrible companies and bosses and work environments, there are people out there who actually care about you.
My wife worked in a horrible toxic office environment, but luckily find a new job with another company for more pay. This morning she went into the office and informed them that her last day would be June 2nd. At the end of the work day, they told her to not come back, today was her last day, and they would pay her fully for the next 2 weeks. However, they told her that all of her insurance benefits would stop at the end of today. Fortunately, her new company is starting benefits day 1 on June 5th, but this leaves her and my 2 year old son without insurance for the next 2 weeks. My wife is also newly pregnant… Is any of this legal? My wife had full intention to work the next 2 weeks, and then they just sort of cut off her insurance immediately. State of…
