Walked into work today to find chairs missing. The chairs up front for customers are still available but all chairs used by employees during downtime and breaktime have been removed. There's still one chair available in the back of the store but it's for the owner and has this sign attached. Apparently, this is being done to “increase productivity.”
Corporation being an asshole about accessibility seems right up our alley. Ionno, mods?

I’m tired…
I just don’t know what to do anymore and I know these same things are said over and over on here but I just need to vent. I(25M) didn’t get the privilege to go to college right of high school. Instead had to go straight to work. In fact I was working full time in high school already. Not being in school just let me work 2 jobs. Now 8 years later I feel like I haven’t progressed in life at all. I currently still work 2 jobs. I am barely scraping by. I feel like I can barely afford to do anything. It takes more than a full 2 week check to just pay my rent alone.( 600 sq ft studio) And I feel like I make decent money. I make around $23 an hour at my main job. And around $18 an hour at my second job. Working…
Canada vs U.K. workplace rights?
I’m from the U.K. and moved to Ontario, Canada last year. I’m a dual citizen. I’ve found Canadian workplace rights more influenced & similar to US rights, and the U.K. closer to Europe. Not as good, and maybe getting worse because of Brexit. I’ve been a bit shocked at the difference as I considered Canada a more progressive country before. Examples: Canada has 10 days of holiday off a year. U.K.: at least 28 not including bank holidays. U.K. sick days are separate (my Canadian employer said they were included in the 10 days), and have more allowance. In Canada, to get private health insurance this is normally through a job. My past job didn’t have any benefits, and many minimum wage jobs don’t apparently. In the U.K. the NHS is available to everyone. Prescriptions are set under £10 for everyone. In Canada as I don’t have insurance, I’ve had…
Poverty, By America
This book by Matthew Desmond is essential for anyone who wants to understand the history of poverty and labor in the United States. Unbiased and incredibly detailed. I’m reading it right now- anyone else?
I live in a low income area which has had historically low costs of livings for as long as I've been here. (Im a graduate student and this is a small college town in the middle of nowhere). I always looked on to other cities seeing extreme cost of living increases and just thanking my lucky stars. Now in my town were seeing a 30% increase on rent over one year. Families and small landlords moved away after the pandemic and rental conglomerates moved in. Every apartment is rented through a property management company now. It seems fewer and fewer houses are available now because theyre all fucking rentals and literally everyone is being forced to rent because they DONT GET FUCKING PAID ENOUGH TO BUY A HOUSE!. I make 30k a year as a sudent and because theres such a shortage with seriously inflated rates I'm worried I'll be…

need workplace advice
hi all! i (21F) just recently got hired for part time work on an organic farm about 2/3 weeks ago. my schedule was established to be Tues Wed 8-5 (sometimes later), Thurs 8-12 (sometimes later), and market Sat 6:45-11:45. the hours are manageable, the work itself isn’t. my problem is, i’m exhausted and burnt out… already. my bosses just had a baby and are burnt out and overworked, and that seems to be what my work environment has become. we all sleep, work, sleep, work, with no time for anything else. my other coworker sometimes works 50+ hour weeks where my boss just doesn’t let him go home until the work is sufficiently enough “done” for him. i got hired for part time since i’m a student with another job besides this one, but he’s been trying to “jokingly” convince me to work full time or pile on more hours.…
