Flawed Project
I’m working on a project to create a calendar for scheduling equipment maintenances at my work. The project was given to my colleague and I in the last week of April. We ran into issues in May with my manager explaining what they wanted…they told me they wanted something, then changed it, and gaslit me about what they initially said they wanted. Fine. Then the sheet crashed and was unrecoverable so we had to make a new spread sheet. Then we start building out the calendar with the data we gathered, and it turns out it takes about 5min to verify the equipment, date, intervention type etc. per equipment and there’s over 400 pieces of equipment—Aka we need more ppl to help us work on this. Then my manager gets mad that it’s taking longer than we thought, I explain the set backs and we bring 3 new people into…
Managers, anybody?
Managers today: Nobody wants to work!!! They just want free money. Worker: Can I have some overtime hours this week? Funds are tight. Also Managers today: Oh, you want to do overtime? Nope! Can't have that!!! We don't wanna give you wage and a half. Greedy people. Eww, get out of my office.
A mod removed by post when it violated no policies just because it was unpopular with some. Its like they had a difficult time finding a reason to remove because tje reasons they gave, which i assume was a part of a list they selected from, had nothing at all to do with my post. I emailed the mod to appeal and so far no response. Anyone knows how long it takes to get a response?
Conversation I overheard at the barber
Guy next to me getting his haircut: “Yeah, I’m opening a [franchise] up in [town]. I’ve been interviewing to find a store manager. Had a girl come in yesterday wanting to work for me. She currently manages [other franchise]. I asked her to work 2 hours at my other location to see if she likes it. She said she did but I think she was just saying it to please me. She’s decent but what concerns me is that she had kids. A lot of the workers will be teenagers and they call out sick all the time. What if she’s at her kids baseball game and can’t cover shifts? It sounds bad I guess, but I need a store manager with no life so they can come in whenever I need them”
I have worked at X company for 13 months now. X is not a startup: it’s a large company. I am a part of a small team. Someone from my team quit back in November and they never replaced them, so myself and 1 other person completely absorbed their workload. In addition to that, my workload and responsibilities have hugely increased. Since I’ve started, my workload has increased by 3x I’d say. Many new clients, more projects, troubleshooting things constantly, having to tell people how to do their jobs every day, client calls, one thing after another none of which I enjoy doing. God I hate this shit. No possibility of a raise, no promotion, no formal feedback, barely any recognition, no cost of living adjustment despite the absurd inflation going on right now, team member who quit was never replaced even though they lied to us and said she…
