There is a big PR problem with strikes and protests – when people are inconvenienced, these days they blame the PROTESTERS, not the greedy business or the callous politician or whatever. How do we direct that anger where it needs to go – to the people that causes these protests in the first place?

How I learned the value of life-work balance!

I was told to crosspost my comment in another subreddit here as folks may appreciate it here. Got a solid response with the folks talking about an a-hole boss demanding an employee work over a pre-booked vacation. I'll add a bit more context here, but this was about 12 years ago when this all went down. Since then, I went back to work for a previous employer where I was unceremoniously let go for reasons (maybe another post), but have since been working for almost 10 years at another company (folks of this subreddit are not a huge fan of them but they have probably treated me the most humanely and respectfully as I've ever seen). That said…on with the story! In 2010, after the wonderful failings of the job market leading to salary freezes and sub-par raises, I had gotten my 3 year performance evaluation at my employer at…

I hate the new owners

Hi I used to work for a big company that used to be owned by a family. Said big company got bought out by a giant and I'm upset. We were doing great, we actually were like a family ( cringe I know but being an antiwork member and a team leader, I had quite some control to actually make things right) but the moment these people bought us it all changed. Now we have unreasonable targets, we need to wear only certain clothes that they won't be providing, they wont give extra days off in lieu of stat holidays and they are planning on changing how we get paid (will it be better? Probably not). Also we got meetings outside of working hours…. This job was the only job I ever enjoyed and they took the enjoyment away from me…

My work changed my position because they’re short staffed

I work for a large bicycle company. Think “Quantity Bicycle Products”. I’m this company I started a few years ago in late 2020 to work on the shipping and receiving floor. What was meant to be a temporary gig turned out to be ok for the time being and I kept moving up fairly quickly. First to inventory control, then to hand building wheels. I’m the year I’ve been up here I’ve been passed up for a promotion, denied a raise, and not received any bonuses. All of this is allegedly because the company isn’t doing so hot. All of the VP’s had their earnings removed from our shared database of salaries to avoid scrutiny. Well the latest round of bullshit is that they got these “co operative robots” to help the distribution center workers. Except they’re incredibly non user friendly and they slow work down. They got these robots…

I left before the interview

They hit every red flag. I got to the location on time, but the building had a different business name on the front and no street number. I called the phone number I was given and asked if this was the building because it was labelled “Other Business Center” and not “This Business.” The receptionist laughed at me and said I was “probably at the right place, but if not, there's another location in the city.” Okay? So I go inside and only after you walk through the 30ish yard foyer do you see a sign for “This Business.” I walk in and 3 receptionists are talking amongst each other. We all look at each other, I smile, and they go back chatting for another minute until one woman leaves (I'm assuming for break because she brought her things). Then they acknowledge me and tell me to go sit in…

Interviewing Vent (sorta a follow up to my last post)

My last post I was very frustrated at how my employer gaslight me about a promotion when I started, and how insanely rude my boss was too me about asking for said promotion. As a lot of you recommended leave, look for a new job. Totally agree. The interview process has been an absolute nightmare. I have had place squeeze 3 interviews into 3 days and then not let me know if I got the job or not till a month later. I have place saying they need someone to start right away and apparently are still interviewing people a month later. I have had to do hours or writing assignments, sneak interviews while at work, and basically sacrifice my sanity for this interview process. I am truly working 2 jobs. The worst part is I have probably done 65 interviews so far and only heard from like 3 jobs.…

Companies think $65k is too much??

For context, I’m an environmental engineer/specialist. I work in water treatment, watershed protection, and compliance. (In the field, so it does pay less than the lead engineers) I have 3 years experience, and 3 state licenses. This is the second outright rejection I’ve received with the reason stating my salary requirement of at least $65k is too high. They indicated they couldn’t come reasonably close, so just how bad is the pay really?? I just had an interview with Panda Express as a regional manager. It was paying even more than $65k. Wtf is going on? How has it gotten so bad that middle positions in engineering pay less than fast food restaurants??
