Democrat from Indiana, folks
This is from last November when I asked my rep his stance on the rail strike, can across it in my phone today and felt like everyone deserved a good laugh. Enjoy!
I hate capitalism
Context. I'm a closeted queer person and living with my very conservative parents for financial reasons. And with how much I make a month… If I were to move out I would need to find a place to rent for 1000 a month or cheaper… The only places I can find that match that are 30 minutes away from where I work. Which would result in an increase in my gas usage and quite frankly I don't want to drive that far to go to a place where I feel underutilized and underpaid just to drive 30 minutes back to collapse in bed and start over again in the morning. That's not for me. So that means I'm gonna need a new job, but I suck at interviews! Like my brain doesn't operate well when I have to be like “this is why you should hire me” like I got…
I moved to a big city because I wanted to pursue art and be in a place where art was more valued than it was in the rural area where I grew up. In order to support myself I got a 9-5 office job because I felt like that was the safest thing to do. I have a lot of medical issues, so I really needed something with health insurance. The job is catastrophically boring and pretty depressing too. It's a city government job, so the benefits are good, the pay is not good, and I feel like I'm a cog in a horribly inefficient and sometimes actively harmful machine. It's also lonely because I just sit alone in a cubicle most of the time. It's so unfulfilling that it keeps triggering existential crises every day (what's the point of living if I have to do meaningless, unpleasant things all…
Thank You from the bottom of our hearts
My wife and I retired last summer after working for same company for a long time. I cannot say how much we appreciate all of you that are working so hard for wages that are far too low. I come here in peace and I have a question. When we are out in public I’ve begun to try and thank people for their work today. Additionally, when tipping is involved we’ve gone to close to 25% whenever possible. Should we skip the acknowledgment of their working today? Thank you
So, my work is pretty difficult to work with at times when it comes to accommodations. I already asked for an ergonomic chair as a non-medical ergonomic accommodation, and was denied. I'm having a lot of back pain and really need a different chair, so I'd like to just submit a medical ergonomic accommodation request to avoid another headache, but I need to know what kind of doctor to go to to get the order for an ergonomic chair, as I can't afford to go to several doctors for this, and I don't have a primary care doctor.
Automation could put hundreds of millions of people out of work. The common wisdom is that it will create just as many jobs as it replaces, in fields that we can't even imagine yet. I don't believe that. And I don't think that we're prepared for hundreds of millions of people to lose their jobs. We don't have systems in place to take care of those people and their needs. I'm scared that when/if this happens, society will try to ban automation and preserve those jobs. Essentially creating “busy work” for people. I would rather embrace automation and garuntee access to housing, healthcare, education and utilities. Give people the freedom to pursue their interests and choose whether or not they want to have a job. Are there any groups or organizations that share this vision of the future and are actively working to make it a reality? Ideally by pushing…
Feeling taken advantage of
Sorry for how long this is, it just requires some context to make sense. I've been working in an industry for over 10 years now in an administrative capacity within a large system that has over 50,000 employees spread over many sites. I work in a very niche area of that industry that is all about resolving client concerns and improving experiences for clients going forward. I spent my first 10 years working at the main location in the system and my last two and a half years working at one of the satellite locations which is much smaller as there was more opportunity for growth (bigger fish in a smaller pond, you know.) While in my current role I completed two different certifications and obtained a certification that gives me a special designation as an expert in my field. I met a lot of people during this time and…
I do not exist to make you rich.
I think this sums it up. 🤔
Drove by a sign today…
It was a congratulations sign to the 2023 highschool grads. It said,”Congrats 2023 grads, you did it!” “Now get a job.” Funniest thing was it was the sign on one of those really big multi floor storage places. Wtf is wrong with people?
