Workplace Harassment and the Return of the Perp

I'm in my late 20's and I'm about 4 months into my new job. A new colleague (In his late mid to late 50's) came onboard. I was elated that we got along well, because it would provide workload-relief. I was told we'd be working closely on a lot of upcoming projects. Within 3 days of his commencement, he had made multiple inappropriate comments, or just generally made me uncomfortable with the topics he would choose to bring up. The last straw was when he offered me massages and ultimately said he was falling in love with me and touched me around the waist without my consent. I knew this would cause a stir and so I was reluctant to bring it to attention, but I also feared the behaviour could get worse. I was encouraged to escalate it and so I did. Unfortunately the only witness who could've possibly…

Might be playing the victim

I work at a hotel, and now I’m required to have two apps on my personal phone just for work related things. I already get people trying to call and reach me on my days off. I don’t want a 24/7 connection to that place. I feel like if they want us to have those apps so bad then they should provide the tech for us to use it on. I pay this bill, I paid for my phone storage- why should work take up even more space?

Tipping at self checkout

I’ve seen some posts about tipping culture here and just had to share my shock at the self checkout in the Newark airport. It asked me to tip, but who am I even tipping? The guy who makes sure I don’t walk off with the merchandise?

Is it normal to be trained for two roles??

My new job has me training to be both a cashier and sales person, my co-workers were kinda horrified by this. Is this normal? I already know I’m being underpaid since my pay is $14 even though I have a bachelor’s degree.

Job Recruiter is asking candidates to complete a task to discuss during the job interview?

Hey ya’ll, please let me know if this is would fit better in another subreddit. So, I’m interviewing for a Dept on my campus this Friday (it’s a part time, work study type of position) and in the initial email to me, they’ve attached a doc with a prompt as follows, formatted with only a header and a few sentences. “For your interview, please share with us a programming idea for an in-person event that will serve Undocumented students. Based on your programming idea, how would you utilize an $800 budget?” I feel like this requires a significant amount of brainstorming and resource gathering – so much so that I have to pose the question of whether or not it’s possible for a job to be trying to take advantage of students’ ideas and pass them off as their own? Or perhaps they’d hire the candidate with the best idea…

Not paid for 7 months now (I was an IC). I have been asking to get paid since month 2 and have received nothing… except empty promises. I was referred by my ex-boss so was a bit lenient (never again) but now will need to arbitrate and PAY the lawyer. Can I ask for more or at least for lawyer fees?

I’m not a human being I am a biological robot.

I'm not a human being I am a biological robot. Emotionless I go to work i do my job and make just enough to live. I go home just as emotionless and mentally drained. I take serotonin boosters to attempt fixing the depression I get from thinking about my future and how this little amount I get paid will probably be the same if not worse. I statistically get 2 to 3 times the amount of work as my other Co workers with no acknowledgement from management. Why give the robot praise? He's doing the work isn't he? I just wonder when this economic situation will end.

It makes me really sad how time has become something to be endured rather than treasured and valued

It's just something I've noticed. For context, I am in the US and I've worked low wage jobs for the last ten years. There just seems to be this general cultural understanding that being alive is supposed to be kind of this lonely, bitter slog that just gets more and more bitter with time. It's really bleak. Granted, I didn't come from the best of circumstances, so I have my own mental health stuff going on that often makes existing really hard for me. But this is something I have noticed far outside of myself. I don't like how sort of this low-buzz (or ear-piercing) misery has become so normalized. What if things didn't have to be this bad all the time?

“The Right Attitude.”

A question for the community: Who else has been flagged on grounds of “attitude” specifically related to duties assigned but not compensated in some way? My example: A while back, boss called me in and congratulated me on a fine performance review. He said he had a list of “responsibilities” that he felt that I should take on. I said, “All right, you want me to take on an increased workload. I assume this means some sort of promotion?” He frowns. “No, not workload. Responsibility.” “Yes, you want me to assume responsibility for some things that I was not formerly responsible for. But now, I am thinking that perhaps this does NOT mean a promotion?” He continues to frown. “We feel that you are not shouldering your share of the responsibility for this subsection.” “I don't understand,” I said. “A minute ago, you're telling me I had a great performance…
