Companies/LLCs own half of my street

Was just told rent is going up ~24% at renewal. Looked into county records, these investment companies own half of the houses on my street. They can practically set the price whatever the heck they want if they just all gang up! Infuriating! https://preview.redd.it/0ufqpwbpt33b1.png?width=1659&format=png&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=2a4b7694804b1acd88ef502dc76fa5304b67bba6

Benefits don’t pay my bills

Current employer is like this. I'm just waiting it out for experience, which I shouldn't have to do with my resume, but the paper ceiling has got me. An untenable wage today isn't worth gambling my future for.

Exit strategy?

Thinking about leaving my current job for a wfh job (yay no more 40 hr weeks!). What would the best exit strategy be? Is it right to give 2 weeks notice for a job where you dont need a replacement? Also worried about coworkers being upset w/ me for a whole two weeks before I leave and really don't want to deal with that.

The attempt to divide us over politics (some which are red herring) is so obvious and unfortunately been successful.

When I talk to older people something they tell me is that while there have been plenty disagreements over politics, it was civil for the most part. The media may make fun of the opposition party or call names. but there was no real seriousness in them. But nowadays it's all black or white without nuance. Let's take LGBTQ for an example. I'm confident that for 99.9% people, they simply have better things to care about than who two grown ups date. But I feel like both sides make it a bigger deal than it really is. Even anti-LGBTQ people won't care unless you force them to accept opposite belief. Gun politics? Why politicians won't propose Czech style gun laws is beyond me. I don't have the time to get into details, but as long as you have appropriate license, you actually have more freedom regarding what…

Punished at work for making friends with a guest

I work in a resort and there's a convention taking place in a few days. A coworker was checking in this group of cosplayers and we got into a conversation about anime and cons. We ended up exchanging social medias and a coworker told me it was against policy and that I'd be fired for it. This led me to having a panic attack in the back room for nearly an hour where I broke down to my supervisor. She told me since I didn't know better I won't be in trouble… THIS time. But also that it's considered fraternizing, even though our policy also states that it's okay to date within your own department. Go figure. I like to think I'm a genuine person, it's part of why my customer service is just naturally good. And I'm bound to click with people and our interests, so if anything making…

3 Former and Current Employees Sue Multnomah County Library for Race Discrimination

https://www.oregonlive.com/news/2023/05/3-former-and-current-employees-sue-multnomah-county-library-for-race-discrimination.html I know my story is not about race, but I can verify they have shit practices. Was fired for “third strike” rule, when I had not previously been informed of any strikes against me. I'm certain one of those strikes was for leaving when my shift ended, and not staying to close. When that happened, no one locked the door and it was left open all night. When confronted, I told them I am under no obligation to stay after my shift ends. Before that event, I was asked things like, “Do you have a bus to catch?” when I made to leave for the day. So wrong. I told them if you need to have someone stay, you need to post the shift as ending after the time they close (typically 10-15 minutes after closing time). Employees need to get paid to deal with the stragglers that move…
