Just came across old HR documents showing what people made 10+ years ago vs now

I recently was cleaning out some hard drives (im in IT) and came across salaries and hourly wages by position for 2010. To my shock, they were literally nearly IDENTICAL from 2010 to 2023. Even my specific position (sysadmin) i earn 80k, the person who was hired in 2010 was brought in at…. 80k! wtf is up with that? How do companies get away with this? Honestly im thinking, is it my fault? is it our fault? why are we letting companies do this to us? Not sure how to approach this. Talk to boss? find a new job?

Job Market Rant

Jobs I've applied to: Military – Rejected due to my medical record Steel Worker – interview went great but didn't get a call back Car Detailer – seemed promising but was rejected last minute for lack of experience Some job building boats – same as steel working job i applied for Solar Panel installer – rejected because i lived too far away from their area of business Landscaping Contractor – honestly fumbled the interview a bit so was kind of my fault Unpaid Internship at a wildlife rescue – position was super competitive and a uni grad got it This was all in the last month. I'm not just listing this out to vent but to illustrate how insane it is to get a livable wage today. Most of these jobs are physically demanding and not comfortable yet still demand some form of education or experience. Literal unpaid internships are…

Asshole went out of business

I was living off savings and had a friend who's dad owns (owned, hehe) a business. They were behind schedule and my friend was suffering from overwork, so I decided to apply and help. Met the dad and he was an A-grade, entitled boomer, asshole boss. I worked respectfully and left the day after I realized no respect would be reciprocated. Learned the old man is selling the business because they can't hold onto employees. “No shit?” Also he is injured. Good, says I! The schadenfreude is too real.

How much sleep do you “need” vs “get”? What does your sleeping schedule looks like?

We often hear many AMBITIOUS people don't sleep much. Are you one of them? If yes, Why? How do you survive on so much less sleep? Are you competing with the world by not sleeping & doing something more important than it? Particularly I'm interested in knowing at what time you sleep & wake up? Do you take naps or not? Don't you feel sleepy throughout the day? How did you compensate your sleep with weekend long sleep or drugs (nicotine, caffine etc.)? We often hear 8 HOUR sleep is mandatory? How false/true is this statement?

Wife signed an offer letter stating a pay increase may 8th. Gets her paycheck and finds out that it didn’t happen and after calling someone internally, they said it won’t take effect for another week because she didn’t start “using her new position name” until a later date. Do we have options?

I asked her to contact both the person who gave her the offer letter and someone from HR and ask for an explanation and request that all communication on this topic be in writing.

Can we tone down the slave rhetoric

50 Million trapped in modern slavery There is so much reference here to how we are all slaves – and its just hard to parse that with the enormity of whats going on globally and how much freedom, albeit with issues, we have in the west. I feel like crying slavery lessens the legitimacy of the arguments across the board.

Why do this?

Went for an interview last week on Tuesday. Seemed to go really well and the manager was excited to bring me on but said she had to talk to the owner. On Thursday, I send a follow up message. On Sunday she responds asking if I could come in and meet the owner on Tuesday. I figure this is a good sign since I've been passed on to the decision maker, but when I arrive on Tuesday the owner essentially starts from scratch and had no prior knowledge of me beyond that I'd be coming in for this interview. Still, I go through the process again and try my best to impress and answer his questions and at the end he says he has other interviews to do but will let me know by tonight or tomorrow. I heard nothing back yesterday and haven't heard anything so far today. Should…

We refuse to go back into the office, they want to cut our pay, look at this one…

Headline: Most remote workers say they'd take a pay cut to continue being allowed to work from home, a new poll shows Original article: https://www.businessinsider.com/us-remote-workers-would-take-pay-cut-to-keep-wfh-2023-5 Archived copy: https://archive.ph/Lay9l TLDR: Supposedly a poll was taken and 55% of those surveyed said they would accept a pay cut to current pay to stay work from home. Opinion: This is just more propaganda against workers and their power as work from home employees. They can't force us back so they are laying the groundwork to reduce pay for these jobs that can be clearly worked from home. This article calls it a “pay bump” to go back into the office, but it's a thinly veiled threat of reducing pay for people who do the same jobs from home. Article quoted below: Most remote workers say they'd take a pay cut to continue being allowed to work from home, a new poll shows 55…
