Probably my favourite thing to do. I smile and nod and totally zone out on zoom meetings. The amount of meetings that I am in is ridiculous. Meetings to talk about the last meeting…action apathy…why is it that VC funded tech companies and start ups have such hard ons for continual, incessant meetings. All I can do is glaze over and go to my happy place in my mind and try to ignore the fact they've f—d the whole company over with our acquisition….

Hey all, this is the sub for this. Not a rant but a concerted and directed breakdown of this I've used Fiverr for a long time, as a buyer longer than a seller. I've never noticed how fucked it really is. I post orders for $50. now the buyer pays $52.75 and expects that much in work, while we are only receiving $40 after it's all said and done. I never knew they charge both parties until recently. my complaint isn't the amount but the buyer expects more work, and they did pay for it, but we're getting far less. Say I'm imagining myself at 20 / hr, this is the difference between 2 hours and 2 and a half hours. It creates a weird space because they want and expect more from us, but we aren't getting that much and man, I've been one to ask for revisions,…
My employers just let go of their whole team at a neighboring branch. That team used to be who they had on reserve to fill in at my branch when I can’t make it to work. Now that this company has no backup employees to replace me if I leave, I’m using this as an opportunity to give them an ultimatum. Wish me luck
My wife is a workaholic.
My wife will jokingly/seriously tell people she is a workaholic. She has done this for years, but I just attributed it to her meaning she has good work ethic and loves to work. Recently though, I had a realization that she hasn’t taken real time off in over a year. She’ll take time off, but still bring her laptop or phone along with whatever activity we’re doing. Road trip, cruise, weekend getaway, she has always worked on something or at the very least, answered questions from coworkers. She has been screwed over by bad employers in the past so I’m pretty surprised she’s this devout. I asked her this morning if she even realizes that she seems to over prioritize work (sometimes more than family time) and she got defensive saying she just wants our family to be comfortable. While I love that, it’s just so odd to me that…

I work at a university in California and I get charged $91 per month for parking. The parking pass is per car so if I want to drive my wife's car for the day I can't. If my car breaks down I just have to call out because it would cost me a few hours pay to park her car. The university offers a van pool but I think you have to pay for that too. My supervisor told me he tried it, complained that the driver was unsafe, and was told he needs a 90 day notice or to supply them with a replacement in order to quit the van pool. I'll be leaving this job in August as my gi bill's housing allowance will pay me about 90% as much as I'm taking home now. But my supervisor requested a raise for me which was denied because “the…
As soon as he let me go I filed for unemployment, but was very perplexed when it said my benefits would be $0 because I had earned zero wages since 2021. A call with unemployment office later and I learn that he hasn’t reported his employee wages for over a year. I sent the unemployment office my W2, which certainly does prove that he was paying an employee during that period, and am currently waiting to hear back. So… what the f*** is going? The only reason an employer wouldn’t report employee wages is to commit tax fraud, right? What are the repercussions of this? What should I do? Did my boss commit a crime or is this a slap on the wrist kind of thing? I have no experience with business taxes or anything like that so I just don’t even know what to expect going forward.
Started a project at a very large medical device company right before Covid hit. Upper management said it was super high priority and would expect us to work late nights and weekends to get it done (which we did), but would compensate us well saying we’d get additional bonuses and a trip to Disney land. Well, after 3 years (half of which I was working 60hr weeks) we’re able to launch it. The team and I haven’t received any additional bonuses or trips to Disney land, just a handful of happy hours, 2 yeti’s, a wind breaker and now a fucking bucket hat…
