Has anyone ever faked a competing job offer in order to leverage more money from their current company and if so, how did that work out for you? My company was recently acquired by a larger/shittier Corp and so naturally several people have left. For the most part new company doesn't care but some of the more valuable ( but non-upper management like myself) employees were offered substantial raises to stay. (They didn't.) I make good money for my geographic location but mediocre for my actual job title so I'm thinking of asking my boss if he'll match my “offer” without officially putting in my two weeks or anything. Is this a terrible idea? I am asking here because a lot of people I know are stuck in the “never rock the boat, don't bite the hand, we should appreciate our overlords” bs that I no longer ascribe to. I…

Retail sucks and I don’t know what to do
It sucks. I really thought I found a job I could at LEAST make two years with. I was doing 60 hours for the last year or so before one of the managers had to leave temporarily. Since then I keep hitting the negatives in my bank account every two months or so now. I want to make money. I want to do something more than just retail. Now I might just have to file for unemployment and it just sucks. No one can live on 26 hours every two weeks. I'm just great full I live with my folks….
I took this job because I was fired from my last one (for stupid reasons that happened over a year prior) and was desperate for work. Huge paycut. I supervise 2 direct reports who have serious issues with authority. My boss is a micromanager, and the 3 of them are constantly arguing with me stuck in the middle. I'm so sick of this. I'm not going to be using this place on my resume. When I find my new job should I give my 2 weeks notice or just say I quit effective immediately the next time one of these stupid fights comes up?
Seriously. What's with the bovine fecal matter? We get it. You've have done an outlandish investment in these office buildings, You are trying to justify the expenses and are now stuck masquerading it as a bunch of semantics about “culture”, “Performance” and “collaboration”. Just cut it out. You are not fooling anyone. But you need to justify the investment, right? Ok. Let's make a deal. Give us a piece of the action, because truth being told, we are in a situation that we can both benefit. Make us partial owners of the building. If I own part of a piece of expensive real-estate, It would be a good motivator. Whaddaya say?
Company has a tax write off office in the carribean. They are sending us there for a “team building week” but are requiring us to work while we are there. Am I wrong for being upset?
I just got two competing job offers, and the one I prefer is a housekeeping position at a hotel. They pay 15 an hour, with around 25 hours a week. I’m currently saving up over the summer for some pretty big life expenses as a college student, so while the pay is fine, I really can’t work that little. They also offered me great benefits for when school starts again- I’d be able to do the front desk position as well in the evenings, and do some homework. I really love this job, but I need to work at least 40 hours a week to make enough. Is there any good ways to convince them, or is it a lost cause? I got another job offer that pays the same but it’s night shift (so around 10:30-7am) and I would really prefer a daytime shift. I don’t know how to…
Literally nothing. They fire me ? I get unemployment. Comes out their pocket anyway. Gonna use it as a clutch if it gets to that but closing doors to open new ones.
I had surgery exactly two weeks ago and basically will not be able to drive for the next 8 weeks. My boss/work approved me working from home during this time as literally everything I do can be done remotely. However, I just got this email from my boss… “I know you’re unable to drive, but please let me know what day you can come in for a few hours next week.” She literally asked me to come in for a few hours next week after acknowledging I am unable to drive. And she also knows I live an hour+ from the office. I can’t even walk, let alone drive. Been using a knee scooter since the surgery. So fucking annoyed.
Hi guys, I would like a secure way (ie that the monitoring doesn't catch, if any) that teams is always online. I want to read books or study without Teams bothering me saying I'm away when I'm at the table. It's really bad to have to keep moving the mouse every 5 minutes, it takes away the total focus. Is leaving a weight on a key untraceable? I want to take advantage of downtime in a better way than staying on my cell phone. thanks
