Old timers are my job are harassing & bullying me & destroying my private property because a young woman now has authority over them- and they hate it.

Old timers AT* my job are trying to force me to quit because they hate the change & authority I am bringing. I have never worked in a place so hostile and toxic and I feel like this may be an actual case, but I am not sure how to proceeed. I am a younger woman (under 30) working in a position that is technically authority over everyone else in the workplace because I am corporate and I am a director of a certain department (trying to keep it vague here for privacy reasons). Ever since I got here, I have been fought on EVERYTHING by these older male coworkers that are “under me” AKA have to listen to me because I am a corporate director. They are all 55+ and have worked at this place for over 20 years, so they are all very close to each other and…

That thing our hiring managers don’t read isn’t enough, do more!

Advice on how not to care

Hi! I have a stable job, and I started before the benefits packet was changed, so that the benefits that I am set to receive when I retire are no longer offered by the state. And they’re great. They are the definition of golden handcuffs. I am really reluctant to leave because I can’t take them with me. I am good at my job. I am reliable and liked (I think) by those I work directly with. That said, my boss hates me. She only communicates with me when absolutely forced or when I have made a mistake. She’s an executive and I am not. I have been killing myself to make the unit work (I am salary), but have decided that I no longer wish to work 60+ hours a week because they refuse to hire me help. There’s the context. The rub is that I can’t bring myself…

I just want to quit – burnout

I’ve been in my field 12 years and I’m in my late 30s. It feels irresponsible, but I just want to quit. I’ve worked a ridiculous amount of hours for years across my job and keep bumping my head on the salary ceiling – I don’t live paycheck to paycheck but my savings is growing slowly. My parents offered for me to walk away and stay with them for a while and worry about a job later, but that’s scary. I’m so burnt out and feel very lost. Have any of you walked away from your career? (I have no kids, no spouse, and rent an apartment, own my car, have no debt, but not a lot of savings. Well educated – BS, MS, and PhD).

My Work and our Makeshift pantry

So, i work for a thrift shop, we only make about 11 dollars an hour, and live in a city where the living wage before hitting poverty is like, 29 an hour. The store i work at has a makeshift food pantry in our breakroom due to us not making much money to easily afford both rent and food. And now our district manager wants us to get rid of it but they also refuse to raise our wage by even two dollars an hour to make it a little easier. Anyone else have similar in their workplaces?

Retail pays more than professional office jobs.

I had a great interview today. It was for a large company that has desk job available. I'm more than capable to perform the job and was given an offer. The hourly pay was surprisingly well below what I am being paid while working in retail. It wouldn't be worth it for me to leave my current job for this position even though it 'looks better' socially. I have a college degree and very proficient in computers. Why aren't companies paying people what they are worth? I went to school to be educated with a valuable set of skills but no one wants to pay for them. I like my current job but it was supposed to be short term while I find a career that leads somewhere.

So much fuckery in the workplace would be avoided with one simple rule.

Management pay cannot be linked to savings on payroll. This one thing would fix almost every problem I have ever had at work.

Three Hour Job Interview and Ghosted Afterwards

Just as the title says, I had a terrible interview experience with a company and I just needed to rant about it. About two months ago, while finishing up my undergrad, I started applying for jobs so that I could have one lined up by the time I graduate. I applied online for a job, after exceeding all of the suggested qualifications, and the company reached out and requested a phone screening. It is for a research scientist position that I am incredibly excited about. Great! I set it up and the day of the phone screening I sat down next to my phone and waited. No call. “No worries, sometimes life gets in the way” I thought so I called the recruiter that was meant to call me and left a message saying I was still interested in the position and would love to schedule another time for the…
