Bit of a different question: I quit on Saturday before Memorial Day. And it’s law to have my check within 72 hours. Are holidays impacted by this? Or can I start seeking my additional compensation for everyday they haven’t paid me?

Former Employer Has not Provided me a Letter of Separation After A Layoff

So, I am at a bit of a loss as to what to do. I was laid off in April in a phone call, They have not provided me a letter of separation which is interfering in my ability to seek a forbearance on my mortgage and other things. I also want this for my records. More than that, this is something they are legally required to provide in my state. I emailed the director of HR, and she didn't respond, so I sent a third email, letting her know that I was not asking this as a courtesy and laid out that they are required to provide this. When I sent this third email, she revealed that she had sent her responses to my previous work user account instead of my personal email. I do not have access to my old work email any longer. She assured me she…

New district next year. Immediately got the ick for the principal.

Edit: just wanted to update and add that I’m not saying this principal is a bad guy for saying that in the email. I think it’s a systematic issue that creates the idea that “good” teachers work outside of contract hours. When I got this email, I laughed and said “ew” and haven’t responded. The email itself is not that deep. I’ve just already spent 40+ hours doing free labor in the program I’ll be taking over this coming school year so this was a big eye roll for me. Principal sent an email to all the new teachers in the district… This was the second line. “Your contract does not officially have you beginning work until August, but we all know good teachers will begin preparing during the summer months.” Free labor means you’re a “good teacher” I guess.

No time will EVER be enough for your employer

Short story. My husband has worked for the same company for 16 years. He is in a skilled trade and loves what he does but now that he’s married and a father he wants to do something else and I respect that. His boss has been a fcking D!CK to him now that he’s leaving. Calling him on his cell, badgering him about the dangers of new job, gaslighting him, and even saying “well, we pay this much for your insurance and how much more will you be making at (unnamed new profession)” Really unprofessional sht. So just know, you can give *16 years of your life to a company and it will truly never be enough.

Got denied for a day off next Friday

Boy do they have a rude awakening coming. I’ll be on a plane to the Dominican Republic for vacation. Got the next week approved back in November. I’m pretty sure I put in my notice for Friday at that time but when I checked the calendar I wasn’t scheduled off. I do not feel bad at all

I got in scolded for being 2 minutes late on a fire drill

As the team lead, I’m expected to put on our safety vest and direct the other members of the team on what to do during a fire. Okay no problem. So I hear the alarm is going off, while I was going to the bathroom, but I couldn’t hear if the fire was on my unit or not from the page. Anyways I finish in the bathroom as quick as I can and come out to find a bunch of management standing around with clip boards and marking things down. I go and get the safety equipment and start instructing my team on what to do. Everything goes fine, the drill is over and I’m happy. Until one of the clipboard dickheads comes over and points to their writing that says “1 min 40sec”, then starts going off about how that how long it took for me to get my…

Employer forcing me to stay longer and using policies and accounting to cheat me out of vacation.

This isn't as bad as some of the stuff I see here, but until now I have always felt that my employer has fair and reasonable practices, so I was a bit surprised by the 180 degree flip the moment I gave notice. I work for a large, non-profit research institution. I have been there a long time but recently received an offer to make big move up in my career. I want to really start strong in this new role, so I wanted some extra time to lay the groundwork for this new position (writing an operational plan, researching new vendors, drafting job descriptions for positions I will add.. you get the idea). Forcing me to stay longer I planned to give over a month of notice at my old job, but due to the usual HR delays at the new job, I did not receive my offer letter…

Anyone noticed how every boss in Britain is now calling themselves “CEO” and “President”?

The legal term for a company director in the UK is Managing Director. Over the last few years people have started giving themselves self aggrandising titles like “CEO” and “President”. Even school headteachers call themselves “CEO of the school”. It’s cringe and ridiculous. Anyone else in the UK noticed this?
