Hey everyone, just a little context before I jump into the question. I am a career product manager. I work with education products and have experience building new products in startups ($0-$20mil) and for big tech ($400mil+). In my previous role, I was a Senior Product Manager, and I oversaw ~1300 SKUs (print and digital) with 55,000 active subscribers and ~$55mil of direct revenue. I also managed a team of 7 direct reports. A little over a year ago, I was recruited to a small “family owned business.” They are reputable and a household name. When I was approached by the recruiter, they built a new role for me focusing on new product development at the Director level. I negotiated my salary to be exactly what I asked for and made the transition. I was told that I could expect annual raises and a 10% Bonus that was 5% Company…

So, I got into a confrontation with my boss today and said I was gonna leave. As soon as I left, boss kicks me from all the group chats and asked me for my “final” hours (BTW they've made me keep my own payroll hours recorded myself). I messaged a co-worker saying sorry I kinda left them hanging and that I was pretty sure I was fired. Well co-worker went straight to boss with what I said and they're now saying I quit and asking me if I'm coming in for my scheduled shifts. I've never said the words quit and when I left it was actually my scheduled time to go anyway (I just didn't ask to go). I know they're trying to get out of unemployment and I don't know how to proceed. I need Reddit's help!! What do I do??? There's no way I'm going back after…
Sick days? What are those?
I work at -megacorp- and they've officially done away with sick days. They've been merged into our PTO. Since I'm a new hire, I don't get PTO until September and I've been here for about two months now. If I have a doctor's appointment, or have any official need for anything related to time off, I have to take the “occurance”. Once we hit five occurances the disciplinary process starts. My only option is to open a case with an associated company to process my absences as either FMLA or ADA protected absences. Since I haven't started this process, I have no idea how difficult it is to get my doctor's visits classified in a certain way to meet that criteria. Furthermore, we don't even know if our absences are protected by FMLA or ADA until we hit 5 absences and the disciplinary process starts. (The absences are rescinded if…
How can I make money without a 9-5
Long story short I’ve been applying to jobs to try and move to a city (Chicago) for about 1.5 years. Current job is in person in person in a small town (Kansas City) and I’m trying to move somewhere with opportunity. The hiring process has been such a shit show I’m at the point where I have signed a lease in Chicago and I’m going to move without a job because I’m mentally dying in my small town. Right now I trade stocks + a discord and am making somewhat decent money from it, but I would like something else to both fill up my time and my wallet. Any suggestions? I’ve considered real estate but the market is horrible now Been applying to account executive/associate roles, 0-3 years experience. Marketing, advertising, sales. Current job is hvac sales account management + a masters in advertising. No luck whatsoever
Saw this and thought it belonged here.
Long story short I’m a new employee at a business, been here for about 2 weeks. My department has 10 full time employees including myself. Since before I was even hired my now boss has been a pain in the ass to the point I’m ready to quit. First, my manager would not respond to emails promptly during the hiring process. I had to actually call other departments in order to get into contact with her to confirm time sensitive information and emails that had been sitting in her inbox for days. I had to just show up the morning of the tentative interview day I proposed because she didn’t respond to two emails and a phone call in a weeks time. I was told the position would hold a regular schedule of 9am to 5pm or 1pm to 9pm. I have only been scheduled for alternating time slots starting…
Questions About Sexuality?
OK maybe working at two companies my whole life I missed something. I worked at one company for 22 years got laid off before pandemic, took me almost 4 years to find a new job with similar salary, now for the past 14 months I have the most horrible boss in the word st my new company. I am applying for jobs on LinkedIn and went for an easy apply and one of the questions was are you gay, straight, hetero, Trans or bi? I have never seen that question come up, just like race, wtf? They have quotas to hit on race now they are tracking sexuality??? This is absolutely new and shocking for me…..what could be next? Not sure I want to know….
Banning the box
So, just listening to local news and Department of Education is trying to get colleges to stop asking about student’s criminal history. What they are failing to disclose is that really is moot: if a person gets an advanced degree but has a criminal record, it is all too likely they will be screened out of any meaningful opportunities after graduation, unless they have a personal network connection that can allow them to bypass screening/background checks. Good luck paying back that student debt.
I quit a toxic job
I have a high paying job in operations at an investment banking firm (middle level management but doing everything you can think of). I've been putting in 70+ hours each week for over a year, putting up with extremely incompetent and untrustworthy management, toxic work environment, largely incompetent colleagues(barring a few), terrible systems and processes. I tried to change things, I tried to do some good. Instead I ended up always bailing someone or something out, cleaning up other people's messes. I got recognition and support from a lot of unexpected people except from my own management when I slogged for 18-20 hours a day finding solutions to critical problems. I'm DONE. I've finally sent in my resignation today. I will start teaching myself how to relax and find something a bit more palatable. Meanwhile I have also started therapy today, I will focus on my hobbies and in making…
