One of the most well known restaurant groups have started closing on holidays like memorial day, Labor Day, July 4th, etc. Employees get a full shift pay, too. They are drowning in applications. Other restaurant groups are following suit because they can’t hire/retain, or doing polls to see what employees want to work those days. If they can’t get a full staff, then they don’t open.

Ok so a house or kids/a family are out of the question. But in recent years I have been struggling to maintain even my regular life. My saving are mostly gone. I have 400 Dollars in the bank. I have already cut back on pretty much everything – yet I still spend more than ever and it keeps getting worse. I already buy the cheapest brands and skip some meals. I already moved to a cheaper apartment. My car is 8 years old and I use every trick in the book to keep it going and doing most small repairs by myself. I buy second hand products. I unsubsribed from all streaming, I dont even have a tv. I dont even go out with my budy anymore because the pub is to expensive. Rather I buy some beers in the supermarket and we meet to watch football at home. I…

For context, I work in retail in Australia and am rather autistic. Because I have to keep up my mask whenever I’m at work I get extremely exhausted extremely quickly. As soon as I’m home I basically collapse into bed and sleep because I’m so tired. Even after a three hour shift. I also hate my routine being disrupted. So, unless I have nothing planned or feel particularly awake and alert I don’t tend to take extra shifts when asked. I mentioned this to a family member and was told that I should expect to be fired for that kind of behaviour. But, I do the work I’m assigned. I go to every shift and work to the best of my ability, I am doing what I am paid to do. I only call in if I’m sick but. Yeah. Can I get fired for that?
