Here are some tips for the people that are being too nice, stop that!

If you find a new job, ask for a 1-2 week vacation, that way if the new job doesn’t work out, you just come back. If you like the new job, just never come back to the old one. When quitting, the reason you always give is “I can’t afford to work here anymore”. That way it’s clear that this is about money. If they want to beg for you to stay for a few weeks, ask them for a raise effective immediately, make it an amount that’s too good for you to refuse. Never let their problems become yours. They are NOT your family. If they say you have to come in on your day off because Bob didn’t shop up, sounds like their problem. If you ask for a raise and threaten to walk out, don’t let them tell you that “yeah give me a couple of weeks”.…

I don’t think I will be able to afford to drink myself to death in my 535 sq ft apartment.

Was laid off in April. Looking for a job is a special kind of soul destroying. I am not picky and have no expectation of ever being happy but it is still not going well. I know it will be months before I get anything and I will hate the job and want to kill myself. Just thought I would share. Hope it is going better for others out there.

I feel like I could never sue my employer

I was talking to my partner earlier about something their employer was doing that is blatantly illegal. I suggested looking into their rights since this could cost them a lot of money. Well they immediately responded that if they sued it would be on their record and probably public and therefore would ruin their career prospects. They also wouldnt get a reference which would make finding future jobs very hard. Which is true? What's the point of employment protections if we can't enforce them? The system is built up so that you either suffer in silence or get punished when you stand up for yourself. So employers break the law in ways that are honestly pretty big but just small enough that it's not worth the consequences for suing. Sorry for the ramble but this is just really frustrating.

Can we stop squeezing three marketing jobs into one now? Please?

Hey. You. If you're a CEO with a marketing team or with an ad agency, listen carefully. The following are three separate jobs with three very distinct areas of specialty: Paid Ads Manager Social Media Manager Website Manager Holy shit. I'm so tired of this cycle. I feel like HR must be like “these three roles deal with computers, I'm sure we can just get away with one person who knows computers to perform these tasks in a not-laughably terrible way.” Look. Your website is critically important to your brand and your business. It's every business's Porsche. Don't you want a dedicated person solely, 100% making sure it's performing the best and constantly up to date with industry best practices and making nice with SEO? Your paid ads are crucial to your lifeblood flow of new and returning customers. Don't you want a laser-precision math and Google Ads nerd on…

Anyone gave two weeks notice but then left way earlier due to disrespect?

So I was put on a perpetual PIP of 1.5 weeks + 1 week + 3 weeks extension. I finally had enough and decided to quit. Giving 2 weeks notice cuz I know that it’s a very busy time at the company. But the sheer gleefulness from my boss’ side when she heard I am finally quitting makes me wanna reduce my notice to 3 days. I know that they wanted me to quit so they don’t have to pay severance and can blame me for being a quitter / disloyal. Anyone have similar experience?

They are not reporting the quit rates anymore, so I will do it!

Part of the corporate con to make you feel powerless is pretending the Great Resignation is over. This is far from the case, we are still near the all-time highs of 4 plus million. “Within separations, quits (3.9 million) changed little, while layoffs and discharges (1.8 million) increased. This release includes estimates of the number and rate of job openings, hires, and separations for the total nonfarm sector, by industry, and by establishment size class.” Sourced from here, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics https://www.bls.gov Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary – 2023 M03 Results (bls.gov) Never forget you have power and agency as a worker and don't let these people propagandize you and make you feel small!
