Waking up at 6am to leave at 7am and arrive at work by 07:45. 11am I take 30 minutes break that goes by when I blink, then finish at 14-15pm. This is the routine many people follow. I come home absolutely exhausted and either sleep from 16 until 20-21, or rot in bed. My meds make me kinda sleepy too, I fell asleep at work today. Making dinner and eating lunch are not priorities when I run out in the morning and wake up in the afternoon. So I’m malnourished in addition. Laundry piling up all week and other chores. It takes ALL my energy going to work in the morning and staying there all day with stupid rules like no phone even when there’s nothing to do. Even when I have evening shifts I can’t seem to focus on anything else than having work later. I just HATE work…
All I see are posts ranting about how “it's not fair” and people trash talking all these corporations… But I see no activism to make change to these broken institutions. Not a soul here is talking about how we should be actively fighting for rights and fair compensation, only a lot of “Guv'ment making me broker so I don't wanna work.” I see no attempt to make progress, only complaints. Complaints are fair, but at least DISCUSS bringing about change and stop simply accepting the way things are. Nothing will change until we break the cycle of silent acceptance and loud whining. Just my opinion.
I just want to apologize ahead of time, because this is kind of a rant. So, I work in the Auto Care Center at Walmart. We had a meeting today, and we were told that Hardware and Sporting Goods are now part of Automotive, and we are expected to help out in those departments. We are expected to take care of fishing licenses, sell ammo, mix paint, stock those departments, and anything else that those departments do. Those were the specific examples we were given, I don't know what all this will entail. This is on top of having to work on cars, stock our own department, clean the shop, etc. This is all being dumped on us for no extra pay. And we were threatened with being sent to other departments even beyond Auto, Sporting Goods, and Hardware if we aren't doing what we are supposed to. This company…
So I’ve been working for this company for about 3 months now and my boss made a joke that made me pretty uncomfortable and I’m not sure how to go about it. Basically what happened was when I came into work today they were cleaning out one of the offices I had never been in before until today and when I walked in I said “this office is pretty cool, I’ve never seen it before” and then my boss (owner of the company) said to me “yeah, this is the room you’re going to be molested in”. I know he was most likely just making a distasteful joke, but it still made me really uncomfortable. This is a small company of about 10 people and I honestly don’t think we have a legit HR department, so I’m not sure how to go about it. This is the first time he’s…
I'm a Junior Buyer in a small-ish business that builds custom wire harnesses and such. My job pays me a little over $18 an hour for the position, and I already work from 8am to 5pm. The plus side is I do get an hour long lunch break (unpaid, naturally), but the downside is that it takes 30-45 minutes of commute just to get to work, and even longer to get home. Well, today, my boss had the nerve to ask if I'd be willing to bump my hours to 7am to 5pm! I declared off the bat that I wouldn't consider it without both a pay raise (since my last pay raise wasn't even $1 per hour, hence the a little over $18 I make) and the chance to work from home. My boss reluctantly said there was no consideration for me to work from home, and I said…
Defamation question
Unfortunately, out of anger while quitting, I told my bigoted, transphobic, classist boss that I would be letting people know how he treats his employees. The problem is, I really care about a lot of my co workers, and I wouldn’t want to do anything that could prevent them from making money. Everything I said was true. But I guess I don’t necessarily have proof and only one person who I know would back me up because he doesn’t care about losing his job. The rest agree with me, but do care But I said it in an email to him. He is a spiteful, petty asshole. Did I do anything that could get me in legal trouble? Also, apparently because he only required a deposit he didn’t violate anything with the uniforms so oops lol but yes just concerned because when I say he’s an asshole, I mean it.
My last job said they offered fully covered healthcare including spousal… by which they meant that they would chip in $250/month towards coverage. That put me on the hook for $600/month for terrible coverage for my husband and myself, and I only found out once I turned down other offers that included actual healthcare. How can you straight up lie like this? They will never face any consequences because everyone just quits the second they can afford to. I wish I had stayed back and unionized, but with my chronic condition I really needed actual healthcare coverage.
I was working for a big company on some project. Top management agreed (by casting dice during a full moon while high) to have the busiest project phase mid May, where all the public holidays are. The great plan: the full team works on public holidays, and of course they mercifully offered to give us the days back as PTO. Well, someone told this plan to our local workers council and they very quickly intervened & forbade the entire thing, as they only allow this exceptionally for truly business critical work. Thankfully, that is not our project. So, a big thanks to all unions and worker councils. We need more of them.
