Massive layoffs
This might belong in shower of thought subreddit but I can’t help but think lately about how all these companies have made a point to be so inpersonable with their firings. People getting just emails, texts, or app messages telling them they are fired has become a norm. So what’s actually stopping someone with anarchistic intentions from hacking workplaces or posing as employers and just telling everyone they are layed off? So nobody will strike in solidarity anymore, that’s fine, just tell everyone they are fired and you got your strike for better wages.
He loved being at his office that much
I was watching Obama’s documentary last night “Working” on Netflix about people’s jobs and one person they followed was a housekeeper in a hotel. I was shocked when she said she made $4k a month. I’m not saying she doesn’t deserve it but here in the UK you’d be miles away from that. Is a really high paid job on US generally or is she very fortunate?
I work with a client who we've had for 10 years. Recently, they have discussed contract renewals and we have been getting lots of ominous emails from the account manager stating that they might be going to some competitors. In the meantime they have been hyper critical of our work and we had to write a 1 page essay essentially begging the client to let us keep our jobs. For context, I work in personal injury cases, but I don't have a degree in anything just industry specific licensing. Part of me thinks it's them trying to intimidate us but I am genuinely afraid here as my financial situation isn't great. I have been applying to simular jobs and I've gotten a few callbacks, but does anyone have suggestions on jobs where insurance adjusting transfers well into? If i do actually get laid off (verdict hasn't been released yet) the…
TaXaTiOn Is ThEfT
The “taxation is theft” folx are wild. My siblings in Christ, what do you think profit is?
I work as a subcontractor for large nationwide, general contractor, whose name I would like to put up on blast for their blasé attitude towards Health on the construction job site. We’re dealing with the green mineral wool, insulation and other subcontractors are cutting concrete sweeping drywall, all kinds of toxic carcinogenic dust here. Our order of N 95 masks was delayed, and I asked the general contractor for one and was greeted with a condescending attitude. I was belittled in their office, and I was told by one of their lead labors they aren’t supplied to the construction crew that’s employed by the general contractor. I was told they provide Sweep base yet. You can see a haze particulate matter in the air on any given day here. What’s worse is this is a union shop and a union job site. And the location of the job here is…
I work at a family owned business with multiple locations throughout the state so you know a lot of bullshit goes on! I ran into some people than work at the main location, where the owner spends his time, and they told me that one of their coworkers got yelled at for using a fire extinguisher to put out a fire, and then the owner proceeded to put the empty extinguisher back on the wall. Obviously wrong and if they do that how many other unsafe practices are they taking part in? What should I do?
Worked but didn’t get paid?
So I worked for a company in MA for one day ( 8 hours ) and went through a 4 hour paid orientation. I quit day 2 because I realized they over glorified the job and knew it wasn’t worth staying there. I have been e-mailing them for about a month about getting paid for my work. They came back with this, and essentially said all my money went to taxes? Does this sound right? I’ve never had this happen before and seems completely incorrect.
