My company recently annouced that there will be a mass layoff due to the downturn in the market. This is after several quaters of record profits. Just one single downturn in one quather, they decide layoff a large number of people who made them billions. This doesn't affect me directly since the layoff is mostly at other departments, but we all know that colleages who we've known for years will be let go soon. We just don't know who yet. This situation creates a lot of stress and unrest at the office. Nobody understands why this layoff suddenly happens, especially after the company has just hired so many people recently. Some new colleages just started last week and they are worried if they made the right decision leaving their last jobs. I feel very uneasy about this. It's possible that there will be another round of cut if this round…

Supervisor won’t fix our A/C
I'm kinda wondering if I'm in the wrong here. I've been with the same company for 10 years now. We work construction in the plants. The a/c is out in the company truck we use at the plant, and we are in the southeast where it gets pretty hot. Combining that with our job being strenuous and the units we work in being even hotter than the temp outside, it gets to be pretty miserable at times. We used to have cool down areas around the plant, but after covid, the plant did away with them. So for the past few years, the trucks were our way to cool down and get a break from the heat. I asked them about the a/c and one supervisor told me that they couldn't get it fixed because the company wouldn't approve it. His boss it the one that rubbed me the wrong…
I wanted to be an engineer. I swear, i wanted to. After High School i left my small city and went in the capital of my country to study Engineering. I struggled a bit but i thought that becoming an engineer, having a purpose, was something to be proud of. On August 17th 2017 i was walking on “La Rambla” in Barcelona. If it wasn't for my girlfriend that dragged me in to a shop to get some churros mere seconds before the attack, i would be dead. I struggled years with PTSD and remorse. In 2021 I finished my Engineering course. But i wasn't the same. That experience changed me, that day a 23 Years old italian guy died. 23 Years old. It was an Engineer. God, it could have been me. I promised to my self to never end behind a desk pushing buttons till the grave. But…
Leave of Absence Not Approved
So I was originally told I would be able to get leave of absence at my retail job to go to my internship, which is required by my university. Since it was for school, I was told, “No problem, we can make it work”. Come to find out five weeks before I'm set to leave that I won't be getting the leave because my boss's boss's boss, the district head honcho, vetoed it. When I asked, “what compromise can we come to?” I was told that I'd have to quit and reapply, but I'd get to keep my position and pay rate. When I asked what would happen if I didn't quit, I was told I'd be fired for missing shifts, because they would continue to put me on the schedule. Come to find out a couple of days ago that the reason they wouldn't approve a leave is because…
Is this discrimination
So long story short I interview for an promotional tech sales role and after 9 long interviews from leadership, VPs I was told I came in 2nd because the end customer is middle aged white men and my personality isn’t a right fit. I was in shocked and just shook my head and ended the call. I’m a POC, always happy and positive personality, very business savvy, work with a lot of white people as customers and they ended up hiring a middle aged white guy for the role. Am I thinking to much into it? I found that comment racist. I’ve dealt with alot of comments in my old companies on racism so immune to it at this point(sad to say)
Told the new owner he’s doing it wrong.
About two years ago the company I have worked for for 17 years was sold to new investors. It has been a huge sh*t show ever since. Today I told the boss in email that he is sacrificing the companies reputation just to make the sale. Actually, the email started out about a large job coming up in a few days that the designer was way behind on and missed all the deadlines. I'm the one that has to convert the designs into workable plans for production. I said this job should be postponed due to all the missed deadlines and last minute changes that were substantial. The owner replies that he made the decision to go ahead with the install because he was afraid of losing the client if it had to be moved to August. I responded with something like “I understand your decision. I just hope that…
No love like a pizza party…
You know… I would have appreciated a raise and benefits… but thank you for the coupon you clipped from a coupon booklet -^ /s Seriously at my wits end with this corporate bs… faux employee appreciation is an insulting slap in the face. Same employers failed to answer the phone when I got locked in a room because they never told me access codes changed 🤗
I started this job after leaving my last job with no plan due to a toxic work environment. Evidently I know how to pick 'em, because I started this job without looking around the building at all during my “interview”. Let's start there. I was asked to come in because the owner had printed a poster I designed for a local client of mine. He liked the work, so he asked to meet with me to discuss “more work”. I'm a freelancer on the side, so I obliged and met. I'd just quit my job, so stress was fresh on my mind for consistent income. Luckily, my current situation is relatively simple so not having a job for a short time was a possibility (it just didn't seem like it at the time). I went to the meeting, which turned out to be an interview, and he offered me a…
This was 15 years ago. It's a place where my wife worked for a few years. A small business, around 20 employees, copy center / stationery shop / desktop publishing / editorial pay-to-publish. One of the employees is Julian, 55 yo, has been there since the place was open decades ago. Julian's wife has got breast cancer and is going through hell. Julian goes to the boss and asks him to cut off his hours to spend more time with wife. Boss tells him that he can't do that, there is too much work and it must be done. Julian insists, argues time schedule can be adjusted, there is not so much work. Bosses fires him on the spot. “I'm sorry, Julian, but I don't like your attitude, this won't work. Don't come tomorrow”. Another worker, Joseph, 30's, stood up for Julian, “come on, boss, you can't do that, he…
